## What Neural Draft MCP server does

The Neural Draft MCP server gives AI coding clients access to a Neural Draft project’s backend APIs. It is intended for sites whose frontend is being created or maintained with an AI-assisted development tool, while content and business data remain managed through Neural Draft.

The server exposes 30 tools across several areas:

- Read and update brand settings such as audience, voice, colors, fonts, and languages.
- Register generated HTML sections as editable components in the admin.
- Create, retrieve, list, and update pages, blog posts, translation keys, images, and products.
- Start AI-assisted blog, image, and video jobs, then check their status.
- Create bookable services and retrieve booking-widget HTML.
- Read newsletter subscribers, contact-form submissions, and account usage.
- Find workspaces associated with an email address through the central Neural Draft host.

Read-only resources provide brand data, response schemas, editable-HTML conventions, and API usage guidance. The package also includes prompts for scaffolding a marketing site, adding blog pages, or connecting an existing static site.

## How it works

An MCP client starts the package as a local process, normally with `npx -y @neuraldraft/mcp`. The client passes a project API key through the environment. The server then uses that credential to call the Neural Draft API and presents the resulting operations as MCP tools, resources, and prompts.

Several operations are asynchronous. Blog, image, and video generation return a job that can be checked with `get_job` until processing is complete. Image registrations use stable keys, allowing a generated or externally hosted image to be resolved or replaced later. Page updates support changes to page fields and SEO metadata, while content listing and blog listing support pagination and filters.

Generated frontend markup can be registered section by section. Translation keys and image keys provide conventions for connecting editable content and media to the site code.

## Setup and configuration

Install the Neural Draft MCP server through an MCP client configuration. The required variable is `NEURALDRAFT_API_KEY`, using a live or test project key. The default API endpoint is `https://api.neuraldraft.io/v1`.

Optional settings include `NEURALDRAFT_API_URL` for staging or local development, `NEURALDRAFT_PROJECT_ID` when a key covers multiple projects, and `NEURALDRAFT_DISPLAY_NAME` for distinguishing several projects in an IDE. Equivalent names with the `NEURAL_DRAFT_` prefix are also accepted. Credentials should be supplied through client configuration and not committed to a repository.

After changing the configuration, restart the editor and check that the server appears in the client’s MCP list.

## Limitations and notes

The Neural Draft MCP server depends on a valid project API key and access to the configured API endpoint. The API key is derived from the project by default, although a project ID can override that behavior when one key is shared across projects.

Generation features consume Neural Draft credits. Video generation has separate budget and premium tiers, listed as 40 and 300 credits respectively. Blog, image, and video generation are not immediate tool responses; callers must poll the returned job. The `find_workspaces` operation queries the central host rather than a per-tenant API.
