## Documentation

## What morosss-sdfsdf does

The morosss-sdfsdf MCP server gives an MCP-compatible language-model client access to academic paper discovery and download workflows. It covers arXiv, PubMed, bioRxiv, medRxiv, Google Scholar, the IACR ePrint Archive, and Semantic Scholar. Sci-Hub support is listed as optional in the project description.

Search results use a shared dictionary-style representation through the project’s `Paper` class. This gives client workflows a consistent shape when results come from different academic platforms. The repository describes the server as suitable for research tasks and AI-assisted literature review workflows.

## How it works

The server is implemented in Python with the MCP Python SDK. Network operations use `httpx` and are asynchronous, allowing requests to be handled without blocking the server while it communicates with external paper sources.

Tools are organized around individual academic platforms. The README gives `search_arxiv` as an example of a source-specific search tool and `download_arxiv` as an example of a PDF download tool.

The client sends an MCP request, the server queries the relevant source, and the result is returned in the server’s standardized paper format. PDF retrieval is available where the selected source exposes a downloadable document.

## Setup and configuration

The documented quick-start path uses `uv`. Install the package with `uv add paper-search-mcp`, then register the server in the MCP client configuration. The provided example launches the Python module `paper_search_mcp.server` through `uv run` and requires an installation directory path to be replaced with a local path.

The README specifically documents Claude Desktop configuration on macOS and Windows. It also describes installation through the Smithery CLI for Claude Desktop. Developers working on the project can clone the repository, create a `uv` virtual environment, and install the package in editable mode with `uv add -e .`.

`SEMANTIC_SCHOLAR_API_KEY` is an optional setting for enhanced Semantic Scholar features. No required environment variable is documented for the basic server setup.

## Tools and capabilities

- Search papers across the listed academic sources.
- Download available paper PDFs.
- Return papers in a common structured format.
- Perform network requests asynchronously.
- Extend source coverage through the `academic_platforms` module.

## Limitations and notes

Semantic Scholar’s enhanced features may require an API key, while the configuration example leaves that value empty.
