## Description
Ask an AI about your Minecraft server and let it run it: players, worlds, configs, logs.

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Install path detected from listing signals. Uses `npx` (confidence: high):

```json
"mcpServers": {
  "minecraft-mcp": {
    "command": "npx",
    "args": ["-y","@mairwunnx/minecraft-mcp"],
    "env": {
      "WORLDAPI_URL": "",
      "WORLDAPI_TOKEN": ""
    }
  }
}
```

**Requires environment variables:** `WORLDAPI_URL`, `WORLDAPI_TOKEN` — the values above are empty placeholders; fill in real credentials before running (see the repository for what each one is for).

## Documentation

## What Minecraft MCP MCP server does

Minecraft MCP MCP server gives an AI client an interface to a Minecraft server running Paper. It can retrieve live server information and perform permitted actions through WorldAPI rather than connecting directly to the game process.

The available tool set covers 71 operations across server and world data, including players, worlds, blocks, chests, entities, inventories, leaderboards, recipes, configuration files, console logs, and Java scripts. Inventory inspection includes item enchantments, durability, potion effects, and the contents of shulker boxes and bundles. The agent can also identify the configured player as “me” when a player name is supplied.

Minecraft MCP MCP server belongs in the Gaming category and is suited to operators who want conversational access to a Paper server, players checking world state, or developers building MCP workflows around Minecraft administration.

## How it works

The MCP process runs alongside the AI client and communicates with WorldAPI, which must be installed on the target Paper server. Requests are sent to the WorldAPI REST endpoint using a token. The token determines the operations exposed to the agent: a viewer token provides read-only tools, while read-only mode hides write operations. Configuration writes preserve existing comments according to the project documentation.

The server can also receive live events, such as a notification when a named player joins. Safety behavior includes treating in-game text as data, indicating when an operation destroys something, and keeping the WorldAPI token out of responses.

## Setup and configuration

Install WorldAPI version 3.0.0 or newer on the Paper server, then create an agent token with the WorldAPI command `/worldapi token create agent`. Configure the MCP client with the WorldAPI endpoint and token:

- `WORLDAPI_URL`: the WorldAPI base URL, such as `http://localhost:8110/api/v1`
- `WORLDAPI_TOKEN`: the token created for the agent

The package can be launched with `npx -y @mairwunnx/minecraft-mcp`. The README provides setup paths for Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, and other MCP clients, including HTTP configuration. A public WorldAPI endpoint can be used without a token where the server owner permits unauthenticated read access.

## Tools and capabilities

Minecraft MCP MCP server provides tools for:

- Reading server status, console output, logs, and configuration files
- Inspecting players, locations, inventories, entities, worlds, blocks, and chests
- Reviewing leaderboards and crafting recipes
- Changing permitted configuration values and managing supported server actions
- Running Java scripts when the token allows it
- Watching for live events such as player joins

The exact visible tool set depends on token permissions. The README describes 28 read-only tools for a viewer token.

## Limitations and notes

A Paper server and WorldAPI 3.0.0 or newer are required. The MCP server does not provide an independent Minecraft connection; it depends on the WorldAPI service and its endpoint. Actions that modify the server are limited by the supplied token, and read-only credentials cannot expose write tools. Client setup details vary, so consult the project’s client-specific documentation for HTTP or local configuration.
