## Description
Local repo memory for coding agents: ranked files, context packs and a code graph for any task.

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Install path detected from listing signals. Uses `uvx` (confidence: high):

```json
"mcpServers": {
  "mimry": {
    "command": "uvx",
    "args": ["mimry"]
  }
}
## Documentation
## What MIMRY MCP server does
The MIMRY MCP server helps coding agents identify which parts of a local repository deserve attention for a task described in plain language. It builds an index of source files, symbols, imports, calls, inheritance, and supported documents, then ranks relevant files and points to functions, classes, or sections to read first.
The output can include matched symbols, related files, reasons for ranking, and a context pack saved under `.mimry/mimry-out/context/latest.md`. That pack also records the repository's test commands. The MIMRY MCP server is intended for repository-aware coding work rather than general web or cloud knowledge retrieval.
## How it works
MIMRY parses supported programming languages with tree-sitter and constructs a local code graph. The same source produces the same symbols, graph, rankings, and context pack across Windows, Linux, and macOS. No language model is used to build the index.
The first index downloads the required tree-sitter grammars and caches them for the user. Later runs re-read only changed files. Before its primary lookups return, MIMRY refreshes the index so results reflect recent edits. It can also rank files that agents previously recorded as useful more highly for similar tasks.
Supported source languages include Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Go, Rust, C#, Java, PHP, C and C++, Ruby, Kotlin, Scala, Swift, Bash, PowerShell, Lua, Perl, Dart, Objective-C, and Zig. Markdown, plain text, PDF, Word, and Excel files are also indexed. Other extensions can be mapped to a supported language in `mimry.toml`.
## Setup and configuration
Install MIMRY with `uv tool install mimry`; `pipx install mimry` and `pip install mimry` are also supported. Python 3.11 or newer is required on Windows, Linux, or macOS. Run `mimry preflight "describe the task"` in a repository to create the initial index and produce ranked results.
For agent setup, `mimry install --platform <name>` can install the skill and register the MCP server where supported. Claude Code also provides a plugin that installs the skill, hooks, and server together. Manual MCP registration uses the `mimry-mcp` command, while `uvx mimry mcp` runs the server without a separate installation.
Installation options include project-only setup, always-on agent instructions, hooks for broad-grep suggestions and background refreshes, and disabling MCP registration. The index and generated output remain local; `.mimry/` and `mimry-out/` can be added to Git's global ignore file by the installer.
## Tools and capabilities
The MIMRY MCP server exposes repository lookup operations as MCP tools. The documented core tools include:
- `mimry_status` for index status
- `mimry_preflight` for task-oriented preparation
- `mimry_find` for ranked file lookup
- `mimry_related` for related-file results
- `mimry_symbols` for symbol-oriented lookup
These capabilities support ranked matching across names, paths, content, symbols, and graph connections. Results identify why files matched and can include line ranges that should be read first. The server is useful when an agent needs narrower repository context before editing or debugging.
## Limitations and notes
MIMRY only parses the languages and document types listed in its documentation. Several additional languages and configuration formats are planned rather than currently supported. Agent integration also varies: some platforms register the MCP server automatically, some require manual setup, and some provide only the skill or have support in progress.
On Windows, `mimry upgrade` will not proceed while MIMRY servers are running unless `--stop-servers` is supplied. The tool is local and does not provide remote repository indexing, hosted search, or an external knowledge base.
