## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Install path detected from listing signals. Uses `uvx` (confidence: high):

```json
"mcpServers": {
  "mcp-redis-server": {
    "command": "uvx",
    "args": ["mcp-redis-server"],
    "env": {
      "REDIS_HOST": "",
      "REDIS_PORT": "",
      "REDIS_PASSWORD": "",
      "REDIS_DB": "",
      "REDIS_SSL": ""
    }
  }
}
```

**Requires environment variables:** `REDIS_HOST`, `REDIS_PORT`, `REDIS_PASSWORD`, `REDIS_DB`, `REDIS_SSL` — the values above are empty placeholders; fill in real credentials before running (see the repository for what each one is for).

## Documentation

## What mcp-redis-server does

The mcp-redis-server MCP server gives an MCP-compatible AI client a tool interface for Redis. Its API covers common Redis data types and several database-management operations, allowing an agent to connect to a Redis instance, read values, write values, inspect keys, and perform selected server queries.

The available operations include string reads and writes, numeric increments and decrements, list insertion and range queries, set membership and cardinality checks, hash field access, and sorted-set ranking operations. Key-oriented tools handle existence checks, expiration, time-to-live values, type inspection, and scanning. Server tools expose database size, Redis information, configuration access, and database-wide clearing commands.

## How it works

After installation, the package exposes a Python MCP object that can be started with its `run()` method. It also provides a command-line entry point. The server connects to Redis using environment-based settings, including the host, port, optional password, database number, and SSL selection.

Operations are presented as separate MCP tools with names such as `redis_get`, `redis_set`, `redis_hgetall`, `redis_lrange`, and `redis_scan`. Connection lifecycle tools are provided separately through `redis_connect`, `redis_disconnect`, and `redis_ping`.

## Setup and configuration

Install the package with:

```bash
pip install mcp-redis-server
```

The documented CLI command is:

```bash
mcp-redis-server
```

The Python usage example imports `mcp` from `mcp_redis_server` and starts it with `mcp.run()`.

Configure the Redis connection with these variables:

- `REDIS_HOST`: Redis hostname; defaults to `localhost`.
- `REDIS_PORT`: Redis port; defaults to `6379`.
- `REDIS_PASSWORD`: Optional Redis password.
- `REDIS_DB`: Redis database number; defaults to `0`.
- `REDIS_SSL`: Enables SSL when set accordingly; the documented default is `false`.

## Tools and capabilities

The mcp-redis-server MCP server groups its tools by Redis feature:

- Connection: connect, disconnect, and ping.
- Strings: get, set, multi-get, multi-set, delete, increment, and decrement.
- Lists: push values from either side, read ranges, and count items.
- Sets: add, remove, list members, test membership, and count members.
- Hashes: set, retrieve, delete, list fields or values, and count fields.
- Sorted sets: add members, read scores, retrieve ranges in either order, and count members.
- Keys: test existence, set expiration, read TTL, inspect types, and scan keys.
- Server: inspect database size and Redis information, read or set configuration, and flush the selected database or all databases.

## Limitations and notes

It also does not state whether destructive commands require confirmation.

The README contains a second usage section with different module, CLI, and repository names (`mcp_redis`, `mcp-redis`, and `daedalus/mcp-redis`) after the primary `mcp_redis_server` and `mcp-redis-server` examples. Use the package installation and entry point matching the project name, and verify the installed interface if the alternate example is relevant. The mcp-redis-server MCP server should therefore be evaluated against the exact Redis commands and operational safeguards required by the deployment.
