## Description
Search Marmiton recipes, read ingredients and steps, and scale quantities to any servings.

## Tools
Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

- **search_recipes** — Search Marmiton for recipes by free text: a dish, an ingredient, or both, for example 'tarte aux pommes' or 'poulet curry coco'. Marmiton is a French site, so French terms work best. Returns candidate recipes with the id and URL needed to read one with get_recipe. One call returns one page of results. Marmiton's robots.txt disallows paginating search results, so this server does not, and there is no page parameter: narrow the query instead of asking for more pages.
- **get_recipe** — Read one Marmiton recipe: ingredients, steps, times, category, rating and nutrition. Give the id returned by search_recipes, or a marmiton.org recipe URL. Set 'servings' to rescale the quantities. Each ingredient reports how it was handled: 'scaled' when the arithmetic came out exact, which a count of eggs, spoons or pinches reaches as readily as a mass in grams, 'rounded' when the value had to be moved to stay usable, and 'unscaled' for lines carrying no quantity at all. Trust that flag rather than recomputing: the point of scaling here is to avoid answers like '2.4 eggs'. Recipes yielding pieces rather than servings are rescaled the same way; check 'yield' to see which. Always cite 'attribution' when showing a recipe to a user.
- **scale_ingredients** — Rescale a list of ingredient lines to a different number of servings, without contacting any website. Give either 'factor' directly, or 'from_servings' and 'to_servings' and the factor is computed. Works on any French ingredient list, whatever its source, so it also serves a recipe the user pasted in. Quantities in grams or millilitres are multiplied and rounded to readable values; a countable thing lands on a half when half of one can be poured, weighed or cut, as a boîte, a sachet, a feuille de gélatine or a cuillère can, and on a whole one when it cannot, as an oeuf, a jaune or a blanc; approximate measures such as a pinch or a handful have their count multiplied in whole units and stay in their own vocabulary. A line writing an article where a digit would go, as in 'un bouchon de rhum' or 'une pincée de sel', is read as one of that measure. Lines carrying no quantity are returned untouched and flagged. Prefer this over doing the arithmetic yourself.

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Install path detected from listing signals. Uses `npx` (confidence: high):

```json
"mcpServers": {
  "mcp-marmiton": {
    "command": "npx",
    "args": ["-y","mcp-marmiton"]
  }
}
```

## Documentation

## What mcp-marmiton does

mcp-marmiton exposes Marmiton recipe data through three MCP tools. It can search by a dish, ingredient, or combined free-text query; retrieve a recipe's ingredients and preparation steps; and adjust quantities for a requested number of servings. Recipe results include identifiers and URLs that can be passed to the retrieval tool.

The server also scales ingredient lists independently of Marmiton. This makes it suitable for recipes copied from books, notes, or other sources, provided the ingredient lines are supplied in French. It performs read operations only and does not publish content to Marmiton.

## How it works

The usual workflow starts with `search_recipes`. The tool returns one page of candidates, including titles, IDs, URLs, and image URLs when available. Pass the selected ID to `get_recipe`, or provide a Marmiton recipe URL directly. The recipe response can include ingredients, steps, preparation and cooking times, category, author, rating, nutrition, and serving information.

`get_recipe` accepts an optional serving count. Its ingredient results identify whether each quantity was calculated exactly, rounded to remain usable, or left unchanged because no quantity was available. The response also describes the original and requested yield. Nutrition values describe the recipe as published rather than recalculating nutrition for the requested serving count.

For local scaling, provide `scale_ingredients` with either a multiplier or an original and target serving count. The tool returns the applied factor, adjusted ingredient records, and counts for scaled, rounded, and unscaled lines.

## Setup and configuration

Node.js 24 or later is required. The package can be launched with `npx`:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "marmiton": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "mcp-marmiton"]
    }
  }
}
```

This configuration works with Claude Desktop, Cursor, and clients using the standard MCP configuration format. Claude Code can add the server with `claude mcp add marmiton -- npx -y mcp-marmiton`. One-click installation options are available for Cursor and VS Code.

Docker and an MCP bundle are also supported. A Docker deployment uses interactive standard input for the MCP protocol and needs outbound HTTPS access to `www.marmiton.org`; it does not require a volume, port, or credential. No environment variables or API keys are required.

## Tools and capabilities

- `search_recipes`: Search Marmiton using French free text. The query can contain a dish, an ingredient, or both. A `limit` controls how many results are returned from the single result page.
- `get_recipe`: Retrieve a recipe by numeric ID or Marmiton URL, optionally recalculating quantities for up to the requested serving limit.
- `scale_ingredients`: Rescale one to 100 French ingredient lines using a direct factor or serving conversion without making a web request.

Quantity handling accounts for different ingredient types. Masses and volumes are multiplied and rounded to readable values. Countable ingredients may become halves when that is practical, while items such as eggs, yolks, and whites are kept as whole units. Approximate measures retain their vocabulary, and lines without quantities are returned unchanged and flagged.

## Limitations and notes

Search terms work best in French because Marmiton is a French site. Search results are limited to one page: the server does not paginate because Marmiton's `robots.txt` disallows paging through search results. Narrow the query to find different candidates.

Recipe scaling is the server's arithmetic, so applications should identify the quantities as recomputed when presenting them. Check the returned yield when a recipe produces pieces rather than servings. When displaying recipe content to users, include the returned attribution.
