## Documentation

## What mcp-funding-investor-record MCP server does

The mcp-funding-investor-record MCP server accepts a company name, domain, and source preferences, then returns a single flat JSON row describing available funding and company-registration information. Its lookup sources are SEC EDGAR Form D filings, UK Companies House, and press coverage of funding rounds.

The result contains 32 snake_case fields rather than nested objects. Funding values carry a source indicator so regulatory filings remain distinct from press-reported amounts. The output can be used as a joinable row in workflows such as Clay tables.

## How it works

The package is a thin client for the Mamba Labs Funding Record from SEC and Companies House actor on Apify. Lookup logic runs on Apify; the MCP package sends the request and returns the actor result.

Provide a company name when possible. Sources are searched by name, and the name is also used when checking whether a filing belongs to the requested company. A domain can be supplied as a join key and can help derive a name when no name is provided.

Entity matching is intentionally strict. Exact matches can populate funding amounts, while likely matches involving another entity are recorded separately in related-entity fields. Rejected filings are counted in `filings_rejected`. The response also reports queried sources, fetch status, coverage, and whether the result was degraded.

## Setup and configuration

The mcp-funding-investor-record MCP server requires Node.js 18 or newer, an Apify account, and an Apify API token. It can be launched with `npx` from an MCP client configuration. Set `APIFY_TOKEN` in the server's environment, then restart the client.

Companies House data requires an optional Companies House REST API key. Without that key, UK fields return `skipped`; SEC and press lookups can still run. The key is available from the Companies House developer service.

Inputs include `company_name`, `company_domain`, `sources`, `lookbackMonths`, `minAmountUsd`, `companiesHouseApiKey`, and `skipCache`. Source selection supports all sources, regulatory sources, SEC only, UK only, or press only. Lookback periods range from 12 to 120 months, with 36 months as the default. Threshold options mark whether an amount meets a selected value but do not remove rows or alter returned amounts. Successful results are cached for seven days unless `skipCache` is true.

## Tools and capabilities

The server exposes the `get_company_funding_record` tool. It can:

- Query SEC Form D filings and return accession numbers.
- Retrieve UK Companies House registration details when an API key is supplied.
- Collect press-reported funding and retain it separately from filing data.
- Apply an entity gate and report rejected or related entities.
- Return one flat row with source, match, threshold, and retrieval metadata.

## Limitations and notes

The mcp-funding-investor-record MCP server is not a general funding database and does not merge press amounts with legal filings. It may return less information than a commercial database because values depend on matching source records to the requested entity.

Press coverage is less verified than regulatory data. Choose `regulatory` when a defensible filing-based figure is required, or `all` when recent press information is also relevant. A missing or incorrect company name is the main risk for incorrect entity matching. The complete actor schema, pricing, and run history are maintained on the Apify Store page.
