## What the Lumail MCP server does

The Lumail MCP server exposes Lumail email marketing data and selected editing actions to compatible agents. It supports read operations for subscribers, tags, campaigns, campaign performance and progress, workflows, workflow groups, organization statistics, subscriber growth, senders, custom fields, snippets, and writing style.

Write access covers adding subscribers, creating and applying tags, creating or editing campaign drafts, duplicating campaigns, and creating or configuring workflow drafts. These capabilities fit tasks such as reviewing newsletter performance, preparing a launch campaign, tagging a subscriber, or building a welcome sequence that remains in draft status.

## How it works

The connection uses Lumail's hosted MCP endpoint at `https://lumail.io/mcp`. It is protected by OAuth 2.1. The client registers dynamically, completes a PKCE-based browser login, and stores the resulting access token. During authorization, the user chooses the organization the agent may access and approves the requested scopes.

The token includes the selected organization as a claim. This limits a session to that organization rather than allowing it to switch between organizations in the same account. Only organization owners and administrators can authorize the connection. Access can be revoked from Lumail's connected-apps settings; the session stops working on its next request.

## Setup and configuration

The Lumail MCP server is intended to be installed through the host agent's plugin or MCP setup. For Claude Code, add the Lumail marketplace, install the plugin, and run the plugin login command:

The repository also provides Codex plugin metadata and an MCP configuration. The documented setup path is to ask Claude Code to read `lumail.io/claude-code`, or ask Codex to read `lumail.io/codex` and configure the connection. Authentication is browser-based, so no API token needs to be pasted into local configuration for the OAuth plugin.

## Tools and capabilities

The available OAuth tools can:

- Inspect subscriber records, growth, tags, campaigns, analytics, workflows, senders, custom fields, snippets, and writing style.
- Add subscribers and create or apply tags.
- Create, edit, and duplicate campaign drafts.
- Create and configure workflow drafts.
- Review campaign progress and organization statistics.

For terminal-based automation, the repository documents `npx lumail`, which uses the same browser authentication flow and reaches the full API. The CLI path includes operations that are not exposed by the OAuth MCP endpoint.

## Limitations and notes

The Lumail MCP server's OAuth endpoint does not register tools for sending, scheduling, or publishing campaigns; activating workflows; unsubscribing contacts; or deleting data. Approval does not make those operations available. Perform them in the Lumail application, or use the `npx lumail` CLI when the full API is required.

The repository also contains a WordPress plugin, but it is a separate component rather than an OAuth MCP configuration. That plugin accepts a `lum_` organization token on the server and provides a `[lumail_form]` shortcode that submits subscribers to Lumail. The OAuth agent session itself does not expose an API token for users to copy or store.
