## What Louisiana Code does

The Louisiana Code MCP server exposes current Louisiana legal text through MCP. Its source is the Louisiana State Legislature website, and the integration is an independent, unofficial connection to that site. Covered materials include the Revised Statutes, Civil Code, Code of Civil Procedure, Code of Criminal Procedure, Code of Evidence, Children’s Code, and Louisiana Constitution. Search can also target additional bodies such as the Civil Code of Appeals and legislative house rules where the source supports them.

A citation lookup returns the section heading, surrounding title or chapter hierarchy, full text, and enactment or amendment information. The history line is parsed into amendment records containing the year, act, and session, with the latest amendment year also returned. Responses include the legislature’s stated update point.

## How it works

The Louisiana Code MCP server reads the legislature’s WebForms pages over HTTP rather than using a dedicated upstream API. Citation requests resolve a citation through the legislature’s law form, then retrieve the resulting section page. Topic searches use the site’s own full-text search and return relevance-ranked results with citations, headings, last-modified dates, document IDs, and the reported result total.

Search terms are handled by the source engine. It combines words with AND logic and supports the source’s syntax for alternatives, exclusions, and exact phrases. Very broad one-word searches may be rejected by the upstream site; the integration reports that condition rather than treating it as an empty result.

## Setup and configuration

No API key, account, or environment variable is required. For a hosted connection, add `https://gateway.pipeworx.io/louisiana-code/mcp` as an MCP endpoint in a compatible client. The full Pipeworx gateway is another option, but it exposes the broader catalog while the scoped endpoint lists this pack’s tools directly.

The package can also run locally over stdio with `npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-louisiana-code`. The local process serves only the Louisiana tools, while the hosted gateway adds shared Pipeworx meta-tools. Direct HTTP tool calls are available through the gateway’s `/v1/tools/` endpoints.

## Limitations and notes
