## What Linkonda MCP server does

Linkonda MCP server exposes Linkonda link-management functions to MCP-compatible clients. It can shorten one URL at a time or process up to 100 URLs in a bulk request. Authenticated users can also view their links, change destinations, pause or resume links, and permanently delete them.

The service reports a total redirect count for each link. It does not collect IP addresses, geographic location, device information, or referrer data, so the server is suited to workflows that need basic redirect totals rather than visitor attribution.

## How it works

The package runs as an MCP server over standard input and output. An MCP client starts it with `npx -y @veranoapp/linkonda-mcp`, then presents its operations as agent tools. The server communicates with the Linkonda API, using the default endpoint at `https://api.linkonda.com` unless another base URL is configured.

A key is optional. Without credentials, `shorten_link` can create anonymous links, and `get_link_stats` and `check_quota` remain available. Anonymous shortening is limited to 10 links per network, and those links expire after 30 days. With `LINKONDA_API_KEY`, created links are permanent and saved to the associated account. Bearer authentication requires a paid plan.

Bulk shortening can return partial success. If some URLs fail because of quota limits or invalid input, the response reports both created and failed entries instead of discarding the successful results.

## Setup and configuration

Add the package to an MCP client configuration. A minimal stdio entry uses the following command and argument:

To use account-backed management, add `LINKONDA_API_KEY` in the entry's environment. Create the key in the Linkonda dashboard under **API keys**; it is displayed once. `LINKONDA_API_BASE_URL` can point the server at another Linkonda API instance.

For local development, install dependencies with `npm install`, build with `npm run build`, and start the server with `npm start`. The development process speaks MCP over stdio. `npm run typecheck` runs the compiler without producing output files.

## Tools and capabilities

- `shorten_link` creates a short link for one URL and does not require a key.
- `shorten_links_bulk` handles up to 100 URLs in one request and requires authentication.
- `list_links` returns account links with their destinations and click counts; authentication is required.
- `update_link` changes a destination or pauses and resumes a link; authentication is required.
- `delete_link` permanently removes a link and requires authentication.
- `get_link_stats` returns a link's total redirect count without requiring a key.
- `check_quota` reports live links against the applicable allowance without requiring a key.

## Limitations and notes

Linkonda MCP server does not provide geographic, device, referrer, or other per-visitor breakdowns because Linkonda does not collect that information. It is therefore not appropriate when a workflow needs click attribution or visitor-level analytics. Anonymous links are temporary and network-limited; persistent links and account-level management require an API key and a paid plan.
