## Description
Headless browser for AI and web automation with a built-in MCP server.

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
No confirmed install details yet, so no config is published. Follow the setup steps in the repository above.

## Documentation

## What lightpanda-io/browser does

The lightpanda-io/browser MCP server exposes Lightpanda’s headless browser to MCP clients. Lightpanda is a browser implemented in Zig rather than a Chromium or WebKit fork. Its documented use cases include AI-agent browsing, web automation, page retrieval, and extracting information from web pages.

The project also provides command-line and browser-driver interfaces outside MCP. It can fetch a URL and dump HTML, Markdown, PNG, PDF, or structured metadata, and it can expose a CDP server for Puppeteer or other compatible automation clients. WebDriver BiDi is available through the browser’s server mode.

## How it works

The MCP interface uses JSON-RPC 2.0 over standard input and output. An MCP client starts the Lightpanda executable with the `mcp` argument, then communicates with the running process through the MCP connection.

Lightpanda also includes an agent mode that operates inside the browser process. That mode can navigate pages, click through flows, fill forms, and extract structured data from plain-language instructions or slash commands. Sessions can be saved as PandaScript JavaScript and replayed later with the `run` command. These capabilities are related to the browser project but are separate from the MCP transport configuration.

## Setup and configuration

Install a nightly build with Homebrew, the Arch User Repository, a release binary, or an official Docker image. Linux and macOS binaries are available for x86_64 and aarch64. Windows users must run Lightpanda inside WSL2; there is no native Windows binary. Linux release binaries require glibc, so Alpine and other musl-based environments need a glibc-based image or a source build.

Add the executable to an MCP client configuration with a command and argument similar to:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "lightpanda": {
      "command": "/path/to/lightpanda",
      "args": ["mcp"]
    }
  }
}
```

The MCP setup does not document required environment variables. The executable path must point to the installed Lightpanda binary.

## Tools and capabilities

The lightpanda-io/browser MCP server is intended for browser automation tasks. The project documentation identifies capabilities for navigating pages, interacting with page elements, completing forms, and extracting structured data. Lightpanda’s structured-data output includes JSON-LD, OpenGraph, Twitter card, meta, and link information; the documentation refers to a corresponding `structuredData` MCP tool.

For non-MCP workflows, `lightpanda fetch` supports waiting by duration, selector, script, or page-load condition before producing a dump. `lightpanda serve` starts a CDP endpoint and can also enable WebDriver BiDi. Puppeteer can connect to the CDP endpoint using a WebSocket browser endpoint.

## Limitations and notes

The provided documentation does not list a complete MCP tool schema, so exact tool names, arguments, and return structures should be verified in the repository’s current implementation. Native Android and Termux builds are unavailable. Windows automation requires WSL2, although a client may run on the Windows host and connect through the forwarded localhost port.

Lightpanda is a headless browser and may not provide the same compatibility as Chromium for every website or automation flow. The repository’s benchmark compares network requests against headless Chrome, but those measurements should not be treated as a guarantee for a particular workload. For the 📂 Browser Automation category, choose this server when a lightweight, headless browser process and stdio-based MCP connection match the deployment environment.
