Install path detected from listing signals. Uses `npx` (confidence: high):

```json
"mcpServers": {
  "lapras-mcp-server": {
    "command": "npx",
    "args": ["-y","@lapras-inc/lapras-mcp-server"],
    "env": {
      "LAPRAS_API_KEY": ""
    }
  }
**Requires environment variables:** `LAPRAS_API_KEY` — the values above are empty placeholders; fill in real credentials before running (see the repository for what each one is for).
## Documentation
## What lapras-mcp-server does
lapras-mcp-server brings LAPRAS.com job and career-profile operations into an MCP client. It supports two main workflows: finding suitable opportunities and managing information about a person’s professional background.
For job discovery, an agent can search using criteria such as keywords, page number, and minimum salary, then request complete information for a selected job by its ID. The profile tools cover stored work history, a professional summary, future career interests, and technical skills. Skills include the skill name, skill ID, and years of experience.
The server also supports profile changes. An agent can add, edit, or remove work-history entries; create or revise a professional summary; update future career goals; and replace technical-skill information, including experience durations.
## How it works
The server runs as an MCP process configured in an MCP client. A client can start it with `npx` and the `@lapras-inc/lapras-mcp-server` package, or launch the published Docker image with an interactive container. Claude Desktop users can also install a Desktop Extension downloaded from the project’s releases.
LAPRAS_API_KEY is needed for tools that access or modify career-history data. The key can be obtained from LAPRAS’s API-key settings page. Job-search functionality is presented separately from the career tools, so a key is not required for every operation.
The repository gives configuration examples for Cursor, Claude Desktop, and Gemini CLI. Gemini CLI can use either JSON settings or a TOML configuration file.
## Setup and configuration
For an `npx` setup, register a server named `lapras` with `npx` as the command, pass `-y` and `@lapras-inc/lapras-mcp-server` as arguments, and provide `LAPRAS_API_KEY` in the environment when career tools are required.
The Docker option runs `laprascom/lapras-mcp-server` with standard input enabled, removes the container after exit, and passes the API key through the environment. Claude Desktop’s DXT installation involves downloading the latest `.dxt` asset, dragging it into the application’s settings, and configuring the key if needed.
Some Node.js environments may fail to connect through `npx`; Docker is offered as an alternative. When invoking `npx` through WSL, environment variables may need to be supplied through the command arguments instead of the MCP `env` block.
## Tools and capabilities
- `search_job`: Find job listings using search criteria, pagination, and a minimum salary.
- `get_job_detail`: Retrieve details for a specific job ID.
- `get_experiences`: Read the work-history entries saved in LAPRAS.
- `create_experience`, `update_experience`, `delete_experience`: Add, change, or remove work-history entries.
- `get_job_summary`, `update_job_summary`: Read or create/update the professional summary.
- `get_want_to_do`, `update_want_to_do`: Read or change stated future career interests.
- `get_tech_skill`, `update_tech_skill`: Read or update technologies, skills, qualifications, and experience years.
## Limitations and notes
Information retrieved from LAPRAS, including personal information, is sent to the AI model using the client. Review the applicable AI service’s data-handling policy before processing personal or confidential career information. Career-profile tools require the LAPRAS API key and can make changes to stored profile data, so write operations should be used with appropriate care.
