## Documentation

## What japan-market-mcp does

The japan-market-mcp MCP server exposes Japanese shopping and public-market data through MCP tools. It is aimed at price comparison, resale research, monitoring, and market analysis rather than general web browsing. Used-product searches compare listings from defined shop pairs: Kitamura with Fujiya Camera for cameras and lenses, Jackroad with Kitamura’s used-watch inventory, Komehyo with Jackroad for luxury goods, and Digimart with Ishibashi U-BOX for instruments.

The server also searches OffMall, the official Hard Off marketplace covering more than 800 stores, and Kakaku.com, which aggregates prices from thousands of shops. For vehicles, it queries goo-net nationwide by body type or calculates minimum, maximum, average, and median prices for a model keyword. Rakuten tools cover keyword searches, price ranges, sorting, and overall or genre rankings. MAFF tools expose central-market produce information, including wholesale prices, periods, year-over-year percentages, trends, available markets, and notable price movers.

## Tools and capabilities

Available tool groups include:

- `search_camera_market`, `search_watch_market`, `search_luxury_market`, and `search_instrument_market` for category-specific used goods.
- `search_offmall_market` for general used merchandise and `search_kakaku_prices` for aggregated new-price comparisons.
- `search_car_market` and `search_car_price_stats` for goo-net listings and model-level statistics.
- `search_rakuten_items` and `get_rakuten_ranking` for Rakuten Ichiba product discovery and rankings.
- `get_maff_market_report`, `search_maff_price_trend`, `get_maff_top_movers`, and `get_maff_markets` for produce wholesale data.

Searches accept keywords such as a camera model, watch brand, luxury brand, instrument, or vehicle name. Leaving the keyword empty scans the relevant category where supported. Results include price, brand, shop, condition, and a product link for item searches. The paired-shop design makes price differences easier to inspect in one response.

## How it works

The japan-market-mcp MCP server places a single MCP interface over market-scraping actors and official data APIs. Rakuten Ichiba is accessed through its official API, while MAFF tools use official open data. The deployment connects to more than 86 Apify Actors in the described Kensho ecosystem, with the server remaining available through an MCP endpoint after it is started in the Apify Store.

Pricing is usage-based in the Apify deployment: the README lists $0.001 per search plus actor start fees, with a typical full keyword lookup costing under $0.01. Actual cost depends on the actors and searches involved.

## Setup and configuration

The hosted option is started from the Apify Store, then connected with an MCP URL and an Apify API token. The token is sent as a bearer credential in the `Authorization` header. The endpoint follows the pattern `<your-username>--japan-market-mcp.apify.actor/mcp`; the username uses a hyphen in the hostname, not an underscore.

A local stdio configuration runs `python -m src.main`. HTTP mode requires installing `requirements.txt`, setting `APIFY_TOKEN`, and starting `python -m src.main --http --port 3000`. The supplied examples show configuration for Claude Desktop, Cursor, and VS Code. The repository also includes an install guide intended for Cline, Claude Code, and Cursor users.

The japan-market-mcp MCP server does not document a separate license in the supplied material. Its pricing, hosted endpoint, and Apify dependencies should therefore be checked before production deployment.
