## Documentation

## What the IndiaCos MCP server does

The IndiaCos MCP server gives AI agents access to Indian business data drawn from public government registers and court records. Its coverage includes 31.8 lakh companies, 5.2 lakh LLPs, and 51.6 lakh GST registrations. GST data also includes proprietors, partnerships, and branches that may not appear in MCA company records.

Records can be searched by GSTIN, CIN, PAN, DIN, business category, location, and dates. The service maps 3,969 NIC codes into 71 plain-language categories and supports filtering by state, district, pincode, and incorporation or registration dates. Available relationship data includes PAN-to-GSTIN links, directors associated with DINs, registered offices, and MCA disqualification-list checks.

Court-case searches identify cases naming a business and expose available indicators for cheque-bounce matters under section 138, fraud, insolvency, and recovery. Contact information such as filed email addresses and mobile numbers is available only for keys with contact access, and each contact read is logged.

## How it works

The IndiaCos MCP server is a hosted service accessed at `https://indiacos.com/mcp` using Streamable HTTP. Add that URL to an MCP client that supports remote servers, then authenticate when prompted. The service is not installed from this repository, and the repository does not provide a self-hosted package; it contains listing and configuration files for the hosted endpoint.

The 13 tools are grouped into search and list operations, record lookups, risk checks, contact access, and wallet management. Plain-language requests can be sent to `search` or `find`, while identifier-specific requests use tools such as `get_gst`, `get_company`, `get_pan`, or `get_director`. Successful calls consume prepaid wallet credit; errors and not-found responses are free.

## Setup and configuration

Connect with OAuth 2.1 by signing in to an IndiaCos account when the client requests authorization. Alternatively, send an API key in the HTTP header `Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY`; the same key works for the REST API and MCP endpoint.

For clients using JSON configuration, the relevant entry is:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "indiacos": {
      "url": "https://indiacos.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

Claude Code can add the server with `claude mcp add --transport http indiacos https://indiacos.com/mcp`. VS Code uses an HTTP server entry in `.vscode/mcp.json`. Gemini CLI can install the extension from the repository URL. Signup includes ₹50 in free credit, described as about 312 calls. Further usage costs ₹0.16 per successful call from a prepaid wallet, with top-ups available through UPI, card, or net banking.

## Tools and capabilities

- `search` and `find` for natural-language searches and filtered lead lists.
- `get_gst`, `get_company`, `get_company_directors`, `get_pan`, `get_director`, and `get_office` for identifier and entity lookups.
- `get_cases` for business court-case and risk information.
- `get_contact` for contact details when the API key permits access.
- `get_wallet`, `top_up_wallet`, and `get_payment` for credit and payment operations.

## Limitations and notes

Coverage comes from public MCA, GST, MCA disqualification, and public court records, so results reflect those sources. Contact data is provided as filed rather than described as independently verified. Contact access depends on the key’s permissions. The hosted service is governed by the provider’s terms, data licence, and privacy policy. The repository itself is released under the MIT licence, while using the hosted service is subject to the linked service terms.
