## Documentation

## What iDos Games SDK MCP server does

The iDos Games SDK MCP server supplies coding agents with the local Module & Skills Registry for iDos Games projects. It covers reusable game content and systems, including examples such as stores, quests, inventories, leaderboards, and multiplayer features. The registry also includes the base project scaffold, runtime package information, and instructions for working with the SDK.

Unlike the hosted iDos Games platform server, this SDK server does not operate on live game data. It does not configure games, generate platform assets, manage task boards, or upload builds. Its role is to help an agent produce and understand project files locally.

## How it works

The iDos Games SDK MCP server runs as a local Node package through `npx -y @idosgames/mcp`. MCP clients communicate with it over stdio. Tools are read-only: they return registry material, while the connected coding agent applies that material to the project it is editing.

The registry is included in the package, so lookups work without a network connection after the package is available. No account sign-in or platform authorization is required. The server is identified in the repository as `com.idosgames/sdk` and is separate from the hosted `com.idosgames/platform` server.

## Setup and configuration

Add the local process to an MCP-compatible coding client. For Claude Code, the command is:

```bash
claude mcp add idosgames-sdk -- npx -y @idosgames/mcp
```

The repository also provides configurations for Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code, and Claude Code. In those configurations, the server uses `npx` with `-y` and `@idosgames/mcp`, and VS Code marks it as a stdio server. The package is published on npm under that same name.

This setup is intended for clients that can start a local process. Browser-only clients such as claude.ai and ChatGPT cannot use this local server directly; the hosted iDos Games server supplies the shared registry for those environments.

## Tools and capabilities

The iDos Games SDK MCP server includes tools for:

- Listing available composable game modules.
- Searching the module catalog by a needed feature.
- Retrieving a module's source and installation guidance.
- Getting the host scaffold used as the starting point for new projects, including sign-in, lobby, and configuration pieces.
- Reading the exact versions of runtime `@idosgames/*` packages through the manifest.
- Listing SDK skills and retrieving guidance for `@idosgames/core`, module contracts, and composition.

A typical workflow is to search for a module, inspect its source and installation notes, check the package manifest, and consult the relevant skill before adding the result to a project.

## Limitations and notes

The iDos Games SDK MCP server is public and read-only. It returns content but does not write files, run builds, publish games, or alter a live game's configuration. The agent or developer must perform those project actions in the local workspace.

It also does not provide the hosted platform server's authenticated capabilities, such as game configuration updates, AI media generation, task-board operations, or build uploads. Use the SDK server for local project development and the separate hosted server when live platform operations are required. The SDK server is MIT-licensed.
