## Description
Run queries against InfluxDB OSS API v2.

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Install path detected from listing signals. Uses `npx` (confidence: high):

```json
"mcpServers": {
  "influxdb-mcp-server": {
    "command": "npx",
    "args": ["-y","influxdb-mcp-server"],
    "env": {
      "INFLUXDB_TOKEN": "",
      "INFLUXDB_URL": "",
      "INFLUXDB_ORG": ""
    }
  }
}
```

**Requires environment variables:** `INFLUXDB_TOKEN`, `INFLUXDB_URL`, `INFLUXDB_ORG` — the values above are empty placeholders; fill in real credentials before running (see the repository for what each one is for).

## Documentation

## What idoru/influxdb-mcp-server MCP server does

The idoru/influxdb-mcp-server MCP server gives an MCP client access to an InfluxDB v2 instance through the InfluxDB OSS API v2. It supports both read and write workflows: an agent can inspect organizations, buckets, and bucket measurements, execute Flux queries, write time-series records, and create organizations or buckets.

The server belongs in the Databases category and is suited to applications where an agent needs operational access to InfluxDB rather than a separate application-specific data layer. Its write operation accepts line protocol data, while query operations use Flux.

## How it works

The idoru/influxdb-mcp-server MCP server exposes four resource patterns. `influxdb://orgs` lists organizations, `influxdb://buckets` returns bucket metadata, and `influxdb://bucket/{bucketName}/measurements` lists measurements for a selected bucket. `influxdb://query/{orgName}/{fluxQuery}` runs a Flux query and makes the returned data available as a resource.

Its tools cover four actions: `write-data` sends line protocol data to a bucket, `query-data` executes a Flux query, `create-bucket` creates a bucket, and `create-org` creates an organization. The server also provides `flux-query-examples` and `line-protocol-guide` prompt templates for common query and ingestion tasks.

Communication uses stdio by default. Starting the process with `--http` enables Streamable HTTP through the built-in Express server, with port 3000 as the default or a supplied port value.

## Setup and configuration

An InfluxDB authentication token is required in `INFLUXDB_TOKEN`. `INFLUXDB_URL` can point to a different InfluxDB endpoint; if omitted, the server uses `http://localhost:8086`. `INFLUXDB_ORG` optionally supplies a default organization for operations that use one.

The package can run directly with `npx influxdb-mcp-server`, after a global npm installation, or from a cloned source checkout using `npm install` followed by `npm start`. For a Claude Desktop setup, add the server as an stdio process and pass the token and optional connection settings in the client configuration. The repository also documents installation through Smithery for Claude Desktop.

## Tools and capabilities

- Write time-series data with an organization, bucket, line protocol payload, and optional precision.
- Run Flux queries with an organization and query string.
- Create buckets with a name, organization ID, and optional retention period.
- Create organizations with a name and optional description.
- Browse organization, bucket, and measurement information through MCP resources.
- Use built-in prompts for Flux syntax examples and line protocol formatting.

## Limitations and notes

The documented interface targets InfluxDB OSS API v2 and uses Flux for queries. The server requires a valid API token, and write or administration operations depend on the permissions attached to that token. Integration tests use a Docker-hosted InfluxDB instance and can be run with `npm test`.
