## Description
Public Instagram profiles and post feeds by handle, with hashtags and mentions parsed.

## Tools
Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

- **hasdata_instagram_comments_getInstagramComments** — Fetches the comments on a public post or reel by its URL and returns the post itself with its caption, media, `likesCount`, `commentsCount` and `timestamp`, then each comment with its text, like count, timestamp and author. 10 credits a call
- **hasdata_instagram_posts_getInstagramPosts** — Fetches the latest posts of a public Instagram account by username (handle) and returns each post with its id, shortcode, caption, type, productType, permalink, media URLs and pixel size, like and comment counts, the posting time, plus hashtags, mentions, tagged users and carousel members. 10 credi…
- **hasdata_instagram_profile_getInstagramProfile** — Fetches a public Instagram profile by username (handle) and returns id, full name, biography, bio links, profile picture URL, followers and following counts, the verified flag and the twelve most recent posts. 10 credits a call

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Install path detected from listing signals. Uses `npx` (confidence: high):

```json
"mcpServers": {
  "hasdata-instagram": {
    "command": "npx",
    "args": ["-y","@hasdata/instagram-mcp"],
    "env": {
      "HASDATA_API_KEY": ""
    }
  }
}
```

**Requires environment variables:** `HASDATA_API_KEY` — the values above are empty placeholders; fill in real credentials before running (see the repository for what each one is for).

## Documentation

## What HasData Instagram MCP server does

HasData Instagram MCP server exposes read-only access to public Instagram data through MCP. The service accepts a profile handle and returns structured information that an agent can inspect or summarize. It does not connect to an Instagram account, publish content, modify profiles, or perform other account actions.

The profile tool returns the account ID, username, full name, biography, bio links, profile picture URL, follower and following counts, verification status, and twelve recent posts. The posts included in that response make it possible to review recent activity without immediately issuing another request.

The post-feed tool retrieves the latest posts for a public handle. Each post can include its ID, shortcode, caption, media type, product type, permalink, image URL, and alternative text. Hashtags and account mentions are returned as parsed arrays from the caption. These post records do not include engagement counters or timestamps.

## How it works

The hosted endpoint uses streamable HTTP:

`https://mcp.hasdata.com/mcp?apis=instagram`

Requests authenticate with the `x-api-key` header. A profile request requires a username without the `@` character. The post request is also keyed by a public username. Each call costs 10 credits, and the documented free tier provides 1,000 credits per month, equivalent to 100 calls.

A profile lookup returns twelve recent posts in the same response. To inspect a longer feed, an agent can make additional post-feed calls and combine the returned pages. Hashtags and mentions are already separated from caption text, so downstream code does not need to extract them with regular expressions.

## Setup and configuration

Create a HasData API key and provide it as `HASDATA_API_KEY`. For clients that support remote streamable HTTP, configure the endpoint and send the key as a custom header. The repository documents direct configurations for Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Cline, VS Code, and Gemini CLI.

Claude Desktop loads local stdio servers, so use the npm launcher `@hasdata/instagram-mcp` with `npx`, or the PyPI launcher `hasdata-instagram-mcp` with `uvx`. Both launchers read the API key from the environment. Clients with OAuth support can add the hosted URL as a connector instead of placing a key in a configuration file.

## Limitations and notes

HasData Instagram MCP server only reads public account data. It is not an Instagram account connection and does not provide write operations. The post tool omits engagement counts and timestamps, while the profile response is limited to twelve recent posts. Usage is credit-based at 10 credits per call, so multi-account comparisons and longer feed reviews consume credits proportionally. The service requires an MCP client that supports streamable HTTP, custom headers, or the documented stdio launcher path.
