Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

## What gregario/warhammer-oracle MCP server does

gregario/warhammer-oracle exposes Warhammer rules and reference data through the Model Context Protocol. It covers Warhammer 40,000 10th and 11th Edition, Combat Patrol, and Kill Team, including unit datasheets, rules keywords, phase procedures, game sequences, stratagems, detachments, enhancements, Kill Team ploys, and Crusade material.

The server also provides game-specific calculations and lookups. Its wound calculator estimates expected attack damage while accounting for hit and wound re-rolls, weapon keywords, invulnerable saves, and Feel No Pain. A separate mission tool maps two Force Dispositions to the players’ Primary Missions for 11th Edition Matched Play.

## How it works

All reference data is embedded during the build process, so runtime queries do not require network access. Data is synchronized daily from BSData through GitHub Actions. The 11th Edition 40K dataset is the default for unit, detachment, and enhancement queries; callers can request 10th Edition data with `game_mode: "40k_10e"`.

Game-flow and phase references are hand-curated from the 11th Edition Core Rules. Detachment-specific stratagem data combines faction pack material with the applicable Codex baseline. Search results are deliberately compact, with unit and stratagem searches returning no more than 10 results.

## Setup and configuration

The package requires Node.js 18 or later. Run it directly with:

## Tools and capabilities

- Find a unit by name and retrieve its profiles, model count, weapons, abilities, and keywords. Faction and datasheet identifiers help select between variants.
- Search units by name, faction, keywords, ability text, or maximum points, then compare two to four units side by side.
- Retrieve keyword definitions with plain-language explanations, examples, and applicable game modes.
- Walk through a 40K, Combat Patrol, or Kill Team phase, or inspect the full turn sequence and the next step from a current phase.
- Look up and search stratagems by name, faction, phase, or detachment, including CP cost, timing, target, and effect.
- Inspect detachments and enhancements, including abilities, available enhancements, associated stratagems, points, and effects.
- Retrieve Kill Team ploys with their type, CP cost, timing, and effect.
- Calculate expected attack damage and account for common re-rolls, weapon keywords, saves, and Feel No Pain.
- Determine paired Primary Missions from two 11th Edition Force Dispositions.
- Search Crusade rules, relics, battle traits, and upgrades.

## Limitations and notes

Search endpoints return compact results capped at 10 items. The Primary Mission tool returns mission names rather than complete scoring or objective text. The server’s 40K unit, detachment, and enhancement lookups default to 11th Edition; use the relevant game mode when working with 10th Edition data. Kill Team-specific references use the Kill Team game mode or the dedicated ploy lookup where applicable.
