## Description
Convert any GitHub repo to MCP server - automatic tool generation API wrap

## Tools
Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

- **get_repo_info** — Get repository info
- **search_repos** — Search repositories

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Install path detected from listing signals. Uses `npx` (confidence: high):

```json
"mcpServers": {
  "github-to-mcp-converter": {
    "command": "npx",
    "args": ["-y","@nirholas/github-to-mcp"]
  }
}
```

## Documentation

## What GitHub to MCP Converter MCP server does

GitHub to MCP Converter MCP server analyzes a repository and creates an MCP server package from the interfaces and documentation it finds. It can inspect repositories written in TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Go, Java, Kotlin, Rust, Ruby, C#, or F#, then generate output in TypeScript, Python, or Go.

The generated server can expose repository-oriented tools such as file reading, code search, and directory listing. Python functions marked with `@mcp.tool` are preserved during extraction.

## How it works

The GitHub to MCP Converter MCP server follows a repository-to-package workflow. It retrieves the repository, classifies its type, and examines configured extraction sources. Supported sources include OpenAPI, README files, source code, GraphQL, gRPC, and existing MCP definitions.

Discovered interfaces are converted into MCP tools with parameters and, where applicable, input validation. The generator then writes runnable server code, dependencies, type definitions for generated tools, and client configuration files. Results can be inspected in the web interface, tested through its interactive playground, downloaded, or saved to a local directory through the API or CLI.

## Setup and configuration

The web application accepts a GitHub repository URL and provides generation without a local installation. For local use, clone the repository, install dependencies with pnpm, and build the project. The package can also be invoked with `npx @nirholas/github-to-mcp <repository-url>`.

The CLI accepts an output directory, an output language, and a comma-separated list of extraction sources. The programmatic TypeScript API accepts the same types of settings through `GithubToMcpOptions`, including `githubToken`, `sources`, and `outputLanguage`.

Set `GITHUB_TOKEN` when accessing private repositories or when higher GitHub API rate limits are needed. The generated package may also include Docker deployment templates and configuration for Claude Desktop, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

## Tools and capabilities

- Classifies repositories as API projects, libraries, CLI tools, MCP servers, or documentation repositories.
- Detects and parses OpenAPI and Swagger specifications.
- Extracts GraphQL schemas and creates query and mutation tools.
- Parses gRPC and Protobuf service definitions and supports AsyncAPI specifications.
- Finds functions, HTTP routes, README-documented commands, and existing MCP tools.
- Produces TypeScript, Python, or Go MCP server code with dependencies.
- Provides a generated tool list, source code, configuration, and a save-to-disk operation.

## Limitations and notes

Generated capabilities depend on what the source repository contains and which extraction sources are enabled. The project does not guarantee that every repository will expose the same tool types. Its supported input languages and generated output languages are distinct: repositories may use several languages, while generated servers are limited to the listed TypeScript, Python, and Go targets.

The GitHub to MCP Converter MCP server is a generator rather than a fixed connector with one predefined tool set. Review the generated tools and code before deploying them, particularly when extraction is based on documentation or source-code analysis. Private repository access requires a GitHub token, and the web interface, CLI, and programmatic API are separate ways to run generation.
