## What getcourse-mcp MCP server does

The getcourse-mcp MCP server exposes selected GetCourse LMS operations through the Model Context Protocol. It focuses on two data areas: users and deals, where deals represent orders in the available tool descriptions.

The server provides three MCP tools. `get_users` lists users and accepts optional status and date filters. `create_user` creates or updates a user and can add that user to a group or deal. `get_deals` lists deals or orders and supports optional status and date filters.

This scope fits workflows that need to retrieve GetCourse records or perform basic user enrollment and update actions. It does not document broader LMS administration, course management, reporting, or other GetCourse API areas.

## How it works

The package runs as an MCP server and can be started with `npx` using the published package name `@theyahia/getcourse-mcp`. In a desktop or coding client, configure the server command and provide the GetCourse account domain and API secret through environment variables.

The default examples use stdio transport. An HTTP mode is also available: the process can listen on a selected port, expose `POST /mcp` for JSON-RPC requests, and provide `GET /health` for status checks. This gives developers a choice between embedding the process in an MCP client or running it as an HTTP service.

The getcourse-mcp MCP server authenticates against one GetCourse account using `GETCOURSE_DOMAIN` and `GETCOURSE_API_KEY`. Both values are required according to the documented configuration.

## Setup and configuration

For Claude Desktop, add a server entry whose command is `npx`, with arguments `-y` and `@theyahia/getcourse-mcp`. Set the two required environment variables in that entry. Claude Code can add the same package with its MCP command, after which the variables must be configured. Cursor and Windsurf examples use the same `npx`-based command and environment settings.

The domain should identify the GetCourse account, such as `myschool.getcourse.ru`. The API key is the secret key obtained from the account settings. Do not substitute a general account name for the domain or omit either required variable.

To use HTTP transport, start the package with `HTTP_PORT=3000 npx @theyahia/getcourse-mcp` or pass `--http 3000` to the package command. The documented HTTP port example is 3000.

## Tools and capabilities

- `get_users`: retrieve users with optional status and date filters.
- `create_user`: create or update a user, with options to add the user to a group or deal.
- `get_deals`: retrieve deals or orders with optional status and date filters.

The package documentation groups these functions into student and deal skills: `skill-students` covers querying and managing GetCourse students, while `skill-deals` covers deal and order queries by status and date.

## Limitations and notes

The source repository is archived. Development has moved to the `theYahia/WWmcp` monorepository, and new issues or pull requests should be directed there. The current GetCourse implementation is documented under `servers/getcourse/` in that repository.

The npm package remains `@theyahia/getcourse-mcp` and is stated to install and work as before. The project is released under the MIT license.
