## What FrontierStack by Enfour, Inc. MCP server does

FrontierStack by Enfour, Inc. MCP server connects AI agents with the FrontierStack application from Enfour, Inc. FrontierStack runs on macOS and administers Macs, Linux and Windows servers, routers, DNS, TLS certificates, and online accounts. It can monitor systems, investigate faults, read logs, and make changes when the account owner permits them.

The repository is an agent kit rather than the proprietary FrontierStack application. It provides skills, plugin manifests, setup instructions, and connection details. The application must be installed separately from frontierstack.app; the kit does not work on its own.

## How it works

The local connection is an owner-only stdio bridge installed by FrontierStack at the user's Application Support directory. The bridge reads its credential from the macOS Keychain, so client configuration files do not contain a FrontierStack token. Agents identify a target, such as a named router or domain, and FrontierStack resolves the related credential when the operation runs. Returned data is scrubbed for secrets.

The local app has roughly 140 tools, but normally presents two bootstrap tools: one searches for the appropriate tool and the other invokes a selected tool. FrontierStack also installs a command-line interface with discovery, tool calls, and commands that run with stored secrets masked in output.

The remote connection uses a streamable-HTTP MCP endpoint with OAuth 2.1 sign-in. It relays seven tools to Macs where ChatGPT access is enabled: Mac listing, server health, fleet context, alerts, diagnosis, log reading, and service actions.

## Setup and configuration

Install and run FrontierStack on a Mac, then enable its MCP Server feature. The app can detect supported clients and write their configuration, or the bridge can be added manually. Node.js is required by the local bridge. Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Codex CLI, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Grok Build, Hermes, and OpenClaw each have documented setup paths in the repository.

Cloud connections use the remote endpoint and require a FrontierStack customer account. The Mac must be running and have ChatGPT access enabled for the endpoint to reach it. Configure a client only once; using both a plugin and a manually added server can create duplicate entries.

## Tools and capabilities

- Discover a suitable FrontierStack tool from the local tool set.
- Invoke a selected tool with JSON input.
- Inspect fleet context, health, alerts, and logs.
- Diagnose issues and perform service actions through the remote connector.
- Run shell commands with a stored secret supplied as a masked environment value.

## Limitations and notes

FrontierStack by Enfour, Inc. MCP server does not provide the FrontierStack app itself, and the repository's skills or role names do not grant authority. The app controls permissions locally: it is read-only by default, change and script switches must be enabled, individual actions may require approval, and App Lock can block changes. Changes are recorded in an audit log. Remote agents that cannot reach a Mac depend on the cloud connector and its enabled access setting.
