## Documentation

## What Football Odds History does

The Football Odds History MCP server exposes historical football results and betting odds through MCP tools. Its source is football-data.co.uk, which provides data for 22 main European leagues dating back to the 1993/94 season and 16 additional countries beginning around 2012/13. The available markets include 1X2, over/under 2.5 goals, and Asian handicap.

The server is listed in the 🏃 Sports category and is suited to queries such as comparing historical odds, reviewing a club’s results across seasons, or finding matches within a date range. It does not require an API key or registration.

## How it works

`list_odds_leagues()` returns the league codes covered by the package, along with names, countries, and information about how the underlying files are organized. `match_odds()` retrieves matches for a league and, where required, a season. It can also filter by team or date range. `team_results()` follows one team through multiple seasons in a single league and returns results newest first.

Responses use a compact default shape to avoid sending an entire season and every bookmaker’s details to the model. This normally includes selected closing 1X2 figures, closing over/under 2.5 data, and the closing Asian handicap line. Set `bookmakers` to `"all"`, or provide bookmaker codes such as `B365` and `PS`, to request opening and closing data with fuller match detail.

The `limit` argument controls the number of returned matches, with a default of 50 and a maximum of 400. Each response reports returned rows, total matching rows, and whether truncation occurred. When applicable, it also provides a hint about filters that can narrow the request.

## Setup and configuration

The Football Odds History MCP server can be connected through the hosted Pipeworx endpoint:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "football-odds-history": {
      "url": "https://gateway.pipeworx.io/football-odds-history/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

The README names Claude Desktop, Cursor, and Windsurf as example MCP clients. The package also runs locally over stdio with `npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-football-odds-history`, which avoids a Pipeworx account and gateway round-trip. The hosted endpoint includes shared Pipeworx meta-tools in addition to the pack-specific tools; the standalone process exposes only this package’s tools.

The tools can also be called over HTTP at the gateway’s `/v1/tools/...` endpoints. No account is needed for the initial calls described in the documentation.

## Tools and capabilities

- List supported leagues, countries, and season file layouts.
- Query match results and odds for a league and season.
- Filter match queries by team, date range, result count, or bookmaker.
- Retrieve one team’s results across several seasons.
- Request compact odds or expanded bookmaker-level detail.
- Inspect whether a response was truncated and which odds form was returned.

## Limitations and notes

The available columns vary by season. Older files contain fewer bookmakers, and closing odds are not available for some seasons before approximately 2019/20. The server returns only values present in the source and does not fill missing odds. Some league and season combinations are not carried by the upstream site and produce an explicit error.

The Football Odds History MCP server preserves bookmaker codes in its responses. Pinnacle uses `PS*` for 1X2 columns and `P*` for over/under and Asian handicap columns, although both are labeled Pinnacle. Very old source dates use two-digit years; the package applies a pivot appropriate to the source’s 1993/94-to-present range. The upstream site requests attribution, and tool responses identify football-data.co.uk as the source.
