## What the FaxSeal MCP server does

The FaxSeal MCP server gives an MCP-compatible AI client access to common fax operations through FaxSeal. It can send a fax from a publicly accessible PDF URL, or accept text directly and have FaxSeal convert that text into a PDF before sending. It also supports pre-send estimates, delivery-status checks, credit-balance queries, received-fax listings, and cryptographic delivery-attestation verification.

This makes the server relevant to workflows that already use an AI assistant to prepare documents, submit them to a fax number, monitor the resulting job, or review incoming faxes. Received-fax listings include OCR text, which lets an agent inspect available content without requiring a separate OCR service.

## How it works

The client calls MCP tools exposed by the server, and those tools use the configured FaxSeal account. `send_fax` requires a publicly accessible PDF URL. `send_fax_text` accepts content directly and delegates PDF creation to FaxSeal. Before submitting a fax, `quote_fax` can estimate its page count and credit cost.

After submission, `get_fax_status` checks the delivery state for a fax job. `get_credits` reports the account’s remaining FaxSeal credits, while `list_received_faxes` returns inbox entries with OCR text. `verify_fax` checks a cryptographic delivery attestation through Sigstore and Rekor.

## Setup and configuration

The FaxSeal MCP server requires a FaxSeal API key. Create one from the FaxSeal dashboard’s API-token page, then provide it as the `FAXSEAL_API_KEY` environment variable.

For Claude Code, the documented setup uses `claude mcp add` with the API key supplied through `-e`, and starts the server with `npx faxseal-mcp`. For Claude Desktop, add a server entry to `claude_desktop_config.json`, use `npx` as the command, set `faxseal-mcp` as the argument, and place the key in the entry’s `env` object.
