## Description
Create and study EngrAmo spaced-repetition flashcards from your AI client.

## Tools
Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

- **get_server_version** — Get this MCP server's own build version (not a catalog/card's `version` field)
- **list_catalogs** — List all flashcard catalogs
- **get_catalog** — Get a single catalog by ID
- **update_catalog** — Update a catalog's name or description
- **delete_catalog** — Delete a catalog
- **list_cards** — List cards in a catalog
- **get_card** — Get a single card by ID
- **update_card** — Update a card's content
- **delete_card** — Delete a card
- **get_due_cards** — Get cards due for review today
- **get_all_learning_cards** — Get all cards in the learning queue
- **add_card_to_learning** — Add a card to the learning queue
- **add_catalog_to_learning** — Add all cards from a catalog to the learning queue
- **list_learning_paths** — List all learning paths
- **get_learning_path** — Get a single learning path by ID
- **create_learning_path** — Create a new learning path
- **activate_learning_path** — Activate a learning path
- **deactivate_learning_path** — Deactivate a learning path
- **search_global** — Full-text search across all content
- **search_catalogs** — Search within a specific catalog
- **list_media** — List uploaded media assets
- **upload_media** — Upload a file you already have (a voice recording, an image) and get back a `media_id` to attach to a card or catalog
- **generate_card** — Create a flashcard — the calling model does any translation/wording itself
- **generate_catalog_with_cards** — Create a catalog with cards in one call — same bring-your-own-AI model
- **generate_cards** — Add multiple cards to an existing catalog — same bring-your-own-AI model
- **list_tts_voices** — List the configured TTS engine, model, default voice, and available voices. No network call.
- **generate_card_audio** — Synthesize speech for the FACE side of up to 20 cards, upload it to your own media, and attach it — using your own Gemini key/quota

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Install path detected from listing signals. Uses `npx` (confidence: high):

```json
"mcpServers": {
  "engramo": {
    "command": "npx",
    "args": ["-y","@engramo/mcp"],
    "env": {
      "ENGRAMO_API_URL": "",
      "ENGRAMO_API_TOKEN": ""
    }
  }
}
```

**Requires environment variables:** `ENGRAMO_API_URL`, `ENGRAMO_API_TOKEN` — the values above are empty placeholders; fill in real credentials before running (see the repository for what each one is for).

## Documentation

## What EngrAmo MCP server does

The EngrAmo MCP server gives an AI client access to an EngrAmo account through Model Context Protocol. It can inspect and modify flashcard catalogs, retrieve individual cards, manage learning queues, and create or activate learning paths. Agents can also search content globally or within a selected catalog.

The server supports both content management and study preparation. An agent can add one card or every card in a catalog to the learning queue, retrieve cards due for review, and inspect the full learning queue. It can also create a card, build a catalog with cards in one operation, or add multiple cards to an existing catalog. The calling model supplies the wording or translation for generated cards; generation does not imply that EngrAmo supplies the language content.

## How it works

The EngrAmo MCP server can run locally over stdio or be used through EngrAmo's hosted MCP endpoint. Local installations call the EngrAmo backend using an API URL and token. The hosted endpoint uses OAuth 2.0 with Dynamic Client Registration, so users sign in to EngrAmo and approve access instead of pasting a token into the client.

Production and development environments use separate backends and credentials. A token must come from the same environment selected by the API URL. The hosted production endpoint is `https://mcp.engramo.app/`; the local process normally uses `https://api.engramo.app` as its backend URL.

## Setup and configuration

Install the package globally with `npm install -g @engramo/mcp`, or let a client run it with `npx -y @engramo/mcp`. Prebuilt binaries are available for macOS, Linux, and Windows; other platforms can build from source with Cargo. Verify a local installation with `engramo-mcp --version`.

Local configurations require `ENGRAMO_API_URL` and `ENGRAMO_API_TOKEN`. Set both to values for the same EngrAmo environment. The hosted connector requires no local installation or token: add `https://mcp.engramo.app/` in a supported client's custom connector settings, then sign in and approve access. An EngrAmo account must already exist.

## Tools and capabilities

The EngrAmo MCP server exposes tools for:

- Listing, reading, renaming, updating, and deleting catalogs and cards.
- Finding cards due today and inspecting or populating the learning queue.
- Creating, activating, deactivating, and retrieving learning paths.
- Searching all content or restricting a search to one catalog.
- Listing media and uploading existing images or voice recordings for attachment.
- Creating individual cards, multiple cards, or a catalog containing cards.
- Reporting the server build version.
- Listing configured text-to-speech voices and generating audio for the FACE side of up to 20 cards.

Audio generation uses the operator's Gemini API key and quota. The generated audio is uploaded to the operator's EngrAmo media and attached to the cards.

## Limitations and notes

The EngrAmo MCP server does not perform the translation or wording for generated cards; the calling model is responsible for that content. Text-to-speech is available only for local stdio connections because it uses locally configured Gemini credentials. Remote-only connections, including hosted connectors, do not provide local TTS tools.

Deleting catalogs or cards changes the EngrAmo account's data, so clients should request confirmation before destructive operations. Access can be revoked from EngrAmo's Settings under Connected apps. Development and production accounts are separate, and switching environments requires a matching token.
