## Documentation

## What easyeda-mcp-pro does

easyeda-mcp-pro provides an MCP interface for EasyEDA Pro hardware-design workflows. It connects an MCP-compatible assistant to an open EasyEDA Pro project and exposes tools for schematic inspection, limited schematic editing, BOM handling, PCB analysis, design checks, diagnostics, and controlled API access.

Schematic tools can enumerate nets and components, show the connections for an individual net, search the EasyEDA device library, place a library component, add wires, and modify or remove schematic primitives. Component results can include reference, value, footprint, LCSC identifier, and datasheet information.

For manufacturing and review tasks, the tool set includes BOM generation, validation against LCSC inventory, file export, and supplier pricing or availability. PCB inspection covers layers, stackup, dimensions, mounting holes, and counts of board features such as vias, tracks, zones, pads, and components. DRC, ERC, and combined rule-check summaries support electrical and layout review.

## How it works

The MCP process communicates with EasyEDA Pro through a WebSocket bridge extension. The extension must be installed in EasyEDA Pro and connected from the application’s MCP Bridge menu before project data and design operations are available.

Profiles control which tools are exposed. Diagnostic tools report health, bridge status, capabilities, feature flags, server configuration, available profiles, and self-test results. Additional diagnostics can inspect the live EasyEDA API inventory, probe bridge methods, and examine runtime component objects. The API call tool accepts a documented EasyEDA `Class.method` path through the bridge.

## Setup and configuration

Node.js 24.x is required. Local development and automation use pnpm 11.28.8. The package provides a setup command that can configure detected clients automatically, either for all detected clients or for one selected client. Tool profiles include `core`, `pro`, `full`, and `dev`, with `core` as the default.

Install the bridge package by opening the extension directory with the package CLI, then import `easyeda-bridge-extension.eext` through EasyEDA Pro’s Settings, Extensions, and Extension Manager screens. Enable Allow External Interaction, fully restart EasyEDA Pro after importing or upgrading, and choose MCP Bridge followed by Connect. The bridge status view shows the running dispatcher build.

Supplier sourcing also requires API credentials from the supported supplier services, including JLCPCB, LCSC, Mouser, or DigiKey.

## Tools and capabilities

- Inspect schematic components, nets, and individual net connections.
- Search for and place EasyEDA library devices.
- Add wires and modify or delete schematic primitives.
- Generate, validate, export, and source BOM data.
- Run PCB design-rule checks and schematic electrical-rule checks.
- Review PCB layers, stackup, dimensions, holes, and feature counts.
- Query bridge health, capabilities, configuration, profiles, flags, and API methods.

## Limitations and notes

The bridge depends on EasyEDA Pro being installed, open, and connected. Operations that rely on live project state require the extension dispatcher currently running in EasyEDA Pro. Profiles can restrict which MCP tools are available. The repository uses the PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0 license, which is not an OSI-approved open-source license.
