## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Install path detected from listing signals. Uses `npx` (confidence: high):

```json
"mcpServers": {
  "airtable-mcp-server": {
    "command": "npx",
    "args": ["-y","airtable-mcp-server"],
    "env": {
      "AIRTABLE_API_KEY": "",
      "MCP_TRANSPORT": "",
      "PORT": ""
    }
  }
}
```

**Requires environment variables:** `AIRTABLE_API_KEY`, `MCP_TRANSPORT`, `PORT` — the values above are empty placeholders; fill in real credentials before running (see the repository for what each one is for).

## Documentation

## What domdomegg/airtable-mcp-server MCP server does

The domdomegg/airtable-mcp-server MCP server exposes Airtable database operations to MCP-compatible clients. It supports schema discovery as well as data access, so an agent can first identify accessible bases and inspect table or field definitions before working with records.

The available operations cover listing and searching records, retrieving a record by ID, creating records, updating multiple records, and deleting records. Schema tools list accessible bases, enumerate tables, describe an individual table, and create or modify tables and fields. Record comments can also be listed or created, including threaded replies through a parent comment ID.

This places the project in the 🗄️ Databases category. It is a fit for workflows that use Airtable as an operational data store and need an agent to read or change that data through MCP.

## How it works

Each tool identifies the target Airtable base and table with `baseId` and `tableId` where applicable. Record queries can limit the result count with `maxRecords`; `list_records` also accepts an Airtable `filterByFormula`, while `search_records` searches for text across text fields or only specified field IDs.

Schema inspection has selectable detail levels. Clients can request identifiers only, table identifiers, or full table details, including fields and views. Record updates take an array of record IDs and field values, while record creation accepts a fields object. Table and field creation accept names, descriptions, types, and optional configuration objects.

The server uses Airtable personal access tokens for authorization. The token must have the scopes needed for the operations being used and access to the relevant bases.

## Setup and configuration

Install it with the generated configuration from the linked install-mcp instructions, or configure the package through an MCP client.

The default transport is stdio, which does not open a network port and is the recommended option for a client running on the same machine. HTTP mode can be enabled with `MCP_TRANSPORT=http` and a `PORT` value. It serves the MCP endpoint at `/mcp`.

HTTP mode has no built-in authentication. Do not expose the endpoint to untrusted callers, including browsers that can reach the host or network. Use a reverse proxy or gateway with authentication when remote access is required.

## Tools and capabilities

The domdomegg/airtable-mcp-server MCP server provides tools for:

- Listing accessible bases and tables.
- Describing tables and inspecting fields and views.
- Listing, searching, and fetching Airtable records.
- Creating, updating, and deleting records.
- Creating tables and fields, or changing table and field names and descriptions.
- Listing and creating record comments, including threaded replies.

## Limitations and notes

Write operations depend on the token having the corresponding Airtable write scopes. Read-only tokens can support inspection and reading but cannot perform changes that require write access. Comment operations likewise require the relevant comment scopes.

The HTTP transport is stateless and does not authenticate requests itself. Binding it to localhost or a private network should not be treated as sufficient protection from browser-based access.
