## Description
Dog-specific aging tools: HAGR dog rows, dog orthologs, dose translation, DAP codebooks, FDA FOI.

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation

## Documentation

## What Dog Geroscience does

Dog Geroscience MCP server provides agent-accessible research tools for canine aging and longevity studies. Its data sources include AnAge, DrugAge, and GenAge dog rows; Ensembl ortholog information; FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine Freedom of Information records; Dog Aging Project codebooks; NIH RePORTER data; a canine aging literature corpus; and a registry of canine trials and cohorts.

The project belongs in the Biology, Medicine and Bioinformatics category. It is aimed at questions involving dog aging biology, interventions, translational dose comparisons, veterinary product evidence, research funding, and study discovery.

## How it works

The package serves the MCP interface over stdio and uses a locally built database. A first run downloads the published database. The database is derived from the project’s corpus, FOI, trial-registry, and related data pipelines. Literature retrieval uses BM25 search with full-text access, while the Ensembl-backed ortholog layer uses caching.

The available evidence includes source-backed records and structured fields. The FOI extraction contains quoted values for pharmacokinetics, safety studies, effectiveness studies, and adverse reactions. Trial records and question-set answers are validated against source material, although the README notes that the canine trial dataset and question set have not received domain-expert review.

## Setup and configuration

Install the published package with `uvx dog-geroscience-mcp`. The repository also provides a Claude Desktop extension in the releases area and a Claude Code plugin. Claude Code installation uses the repository marketplace and plugin commands documented by the project.

For local development, enter the `mcp` directory, run `uv sync`, and build with `uv run dog-geroscience-mcp build`. Use `--skip-download` when the required FOI dataset is already available at the expected relative path. The repository’s refresh and rebuild scripts regenerate derived data, but large corpus, database, FOI PDF, and text files are not stored in Git and are rebuilt or downloaded by the pipelines.

## Tools and capabilities

Dog Geroscience MCP server includes 18 dog-specific aging tools. The documented capability groups include:

- Searching and retrieving the canine aging literature corpus.
- Looking up dog rows from AnAge, DrugAge, and GenAge.
- Resolving dog orthologs through Ensembl.
- Translating doses with FDA Km factors.
- Querying Dog Aging Project codebooks across nine releases.
- Searching NIH RePORTER records.
- Finding FDA FOI summaries and structured veterinary product records.
- Searching canine aging trials and cohorts.
- Building intervention dossiers and dossier briefings with synonym-aware and species-filtered retrieval.

The companion evidence site publishes pages for NIA ITP compounds, veterinary comparators, and FOI ingredients, but that site is separate from the MCP interface.

## Limitations and notes

The database is not entirely embedded in the source checkout; published or generated data is required for normal use. Some Europe PMC full text is unavailable because publishers restrict XML distribution: the corpus contains full text for 1,140 of 1,347 PMCIDs. The trial registry is version 0 and was assembled with model-assisted extraction plus manually written company records, without domain-expert review. The question set likewise has no domain-expert review noted in the README.

The server is designed for canine geroscience research and should not be treated as a substitute for clinical, veterinary, regulatory, or experimental judgment. Source quotations and structured records support traceability, but users still need to assess study quality and applicability.
