## Documentation

## What DatosIA — Central America data does

DatosIA — Central America data provides AI clients with access to public information from Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Belize, and the Dominican Republic. Its coverage includes population and census data, prices, public procurement, suppliers, trade and logistics, labor, banking, energy, crime and risk, health, education, climate, laws, official gazettes, news, research, and live official sources.

The service is designed for questions in either Spanish or English. Results include source references, and some queries can return charts and maps. Geographic resolution can reach municipalities, making the service relevant for regional comparisons, local profiles, and place-specific analysis.

## How it works

DatosIA — Central America data runs as a remote MCP service at `https://mcp.datosia.net/mcp` using Streamable HTTP. An MCP-compatible client sends tool calls to the endpoint, and the service retrieves or processes the requested public data. Results link back to their sources, which include national statistics offices, central banks, ministries, procurement portals, and international bodies.

The available operations cover several workflows:

- `search_data` accepts a natural-language question and can return figures, sources, charts, and maps.
- `find_indicators` helps locate and query measures by place and period.
- `resolve_place` identifies countries, departments, and municipalities and can provide a place profile.
- `search_prices` covers daily retail prices and price changes by unit, kilogram, or liter.
- `find_suppliers` searches procurement participants, buyers, contracts, and open tenders.
- `search_news`, `search_legal`, and `search_research` cover media, official legal material, and academic or policy work.
- `call_live_source` accesses live APIs for datasets published in the marketplace.

Additional tools handle certified companies, currency conversion, official calendars, marketplace activity, and reporting incorrect or missing data.

## Setup and configuration

Connect a client directly to the remote endpoint if it supports remote MCP. Claude can add the URL as a custom connector. Claude Code can use `claude mcp add --transport http datosia https://mcp.datosia.net/mcp`. Cursor, VS Code, Cline, and other clients with remote MCP support can configure the same URL in their MCP server settings.

For clients that do not support remote connections, use the `mcp-remote` stdio bridge with `npx -y mcp-remote https://mcp.datosia.net/mcp`.

Authentication is available through OAuth 2.1 with a free account or through an `x-api-key` header using a free key from the DatosIA account page. The service has a free tier; higher usage limits require paid plans.

## Limitations and notes

DatosIA — Central America data focuses on the countries and territories listed in its documentation; the supplied material does not guarantee uniform coverage for every topic, location, or period. Data availability depends on the underlying public sources and marketplace datasets. The service is remote, so the client must support remote MCP or use the documented bridge. Users should follow the returned source links when validating figures, and can use `report_data_issue` to flag a wrong or missing number.
