## Description
Santa Clara County Open Data (data.sccgov.org) Socrata MCP.

## Tools
Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

- **datasets** — Search the Santa Clara County Open Data catalog of open datasets by keyword. Returns each dataset's resource_id, name, description, category and update date — pass the resource_id to query/metadata.
- **query** — Run a Socrata SoQL query against a Santa Clara County Open Data dataset by resource_id (e.g. "n9u6-aijz"). Filter with where/select/group/order (SoQL clauses, without the leading $) plus limit/offset. Returns matching rows as JSON.
- **metadata** — Get a Santa Clara County Open Data dataset's schema + metadata (columns, types, row count, category, last-updated) by resource_id, e.g. "n9u6-aijz".

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Install path detected from listing signals. Uses `npx` (confidence: high):

```json
"mcpServers": {
  "data-santaclara": {
    "command": "npx",
    "args": ["-y","@pipeworx/mcp-data-santaclara"]
  }
}
```

## Documentation

## What Data Santaclara MCP server does

Data Santaclara exposes Santa Clara County Open Data through MCP. It works with the county’s Socrata catalog at data.sccgov.org and is intended for agents that need to discover public datasets, understand their structure, or retrieve selected records.

The integration provides three pack-specific tools. `datasets` searches the catalog by keyword and returns dataset identifiers, names, descriptions, categories, and update dates. `metadata` uses a dataset identifier to return its schema and related details, including columns, data types, row count, category, and last-updated information. `query` executes a Socrata SoQL request against a selected dataset and returns matching rows as JSON.

## How it works

A typical workflow starts with `datasets` to locate a relevant dataset. Pass the resulting `resource_id` to `metadata` to inspect available columns and types, then use that identifier with `query` to retrieve data. Query arguments can include `where`, `select`, `group`, and `order` clauses, along with `limit` and `offset`. SoQL clause values are supplied without the leading `$` used in some Socrata URL notation.

The hosted MCP endpoint is `https://gateway.pipeworx.io/data-santaclara/mcp`. It lists the Data Santaclara tools together with shared Pipeworx gateway tools. The full gateway endpoint, `https://gateway.pipeworx.io/mcp`, provides access to the wider Pipeworx catalog. A local package installation exposes only the three Data Santaclara tools.

## Setup and configuration

For a hosted connection, add the following server entry to an MCP client:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "data-santaclara": {
      "url": "https://gateway.pipeworx.io/data-santaclara/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

The package can also run locally over stdio with no Pipeworx account:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "data-santaclara": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@pipeworx/mcp-data-santaclara"]
    }
  }
}
```

Run `npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-data-santaclara` directly to start the local server. For clients or scripts that do not use MCP, the hosted gateway also exposes HTTP tool routes, including a POST route for the catalog search tool.

## Tools and capabilities

- **`datasets`** searches the Santa Clara County catalog by keyword and returns identifiers and basic dataset details.
- **`metadata`** retrieves schema and dataset metadata for a `resource_id`.
- **`query`** runs SoQL against a dataset and supports selection, filtering, grouping, ordering, limits, and offsets.
- **JSON results** make query output available as structured rows to an MCP client or agent.

## Limitations and notes

This is an independent, unofficial integration and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or published by the upstream provider. Hosted pack connections include shared Pipeworx meta-tools in addition to the three pack tools; the local stdio server does not. The gateway’s initialization response defines the exact tool scope for a hosted connection. The project is licensed under MIT.
