## Description
Fort Worth Open Data (data.fortworthtexas.gov) Socrata MCP.

## Tools
Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

- **datasets** — Search the Fort Worth Open Data catalog of open datasets by keyword. Returns each dataset's resource_id, name, description, category and update date — pass the resource_id to query/metadata.
- **query** — Run a Socrata SoQL query against a Fort Worth Open Data dataset by resource_id (e.g. "eax3-qev8"). Filter with where/select/group/order (SoQL clauses, without the leading $) plus limit/offset. Returns matching rows as JSON.
- **metadata** — Get a Fort Worth Open Data dataset's schema + metadata (columns, types, row count, category, last-updated) by resource_id, e.g. "eax3-qev8".

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Install path detected from listing signals. Uses `npx` (confidence: high):

```json
"mcpServers": {
  "data-fortworth": {
    "command": "npx",
    "args": ["-y","@pipeworx/mcp-data-fortworth"]
  }
}
```

## Documentation

## What Data Fortworth does

Data Fortworth exposes the Fort Worth Open Data catalog through MCP. The service works with the Socrata-backed data published at data.fortworthtexas.gov and gives an agent a way to locate datasets, understand their structure, and retrieve matching records.

The integration is independent and unofficial. It can be used as a focused connection for Fort Worth data, or through the broader Pipeworx gateway. The gateway endpoint includes the pack's three data tools along with shared Pipeworx meta-tools, while the local package exposes only the Data Fortworth tools.

## How it works

Dataset discovery starts with `datasets`, which searches the catalog by keyword. Results include the dataset's resource ID, name, description, category, and update date. The resource ID is then used with the other tools; an example ID is `eax3-qev8`.

`metadata` returns information needed to plan a query, including columns, data types, row count, category, and last-updated details. `query` sends a Socrata SoQL request for a selected resource and returns matching rows as JSON. Its query options include `where`, `select`, `group`, and `order` clauses without the leading `$`, plus `limit` and `offset` for pagination.

The hosted MCP URL is served by the Pipeworx gateway. The same gateway also offers a full endpoint with all pack tools listed directly. Its `ask_pipeworx` meta-tool can route natural-language questions across the wider catalog, including from a scoped pack connection.

## Setup and configuration

For an MCP client that supports remote connections, add the following endpoint as the `data-fortworth` server:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "data-fortworth": {
      "url": "https://gateway.pipeworx.io/data-fortworth/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

A local stdio installation can run through the package published as `@pipeworx/mcp-data-fortworth`:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "data-fortworth": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@pipeworx/mcp-data-fortworth"]
    }
  }
}
```

Running `npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-data-fortworth` starts the local server directly. The hosted route can also be called over HTTP, including `POST https://gateway.pipeworx.io/v1/tools/data_fortworth_datasets` with a JSON body such as `{"query":"crime"}`. Initial gateway calls do not require an account.

## Tools and capabilities

- `datasets`: Search the Fort Worth Open Data catalog and return identifiers and descriptive catalog fields.
- `metadata`: Inspect a dataset's schema, columns, types, row count, category, and update information.
- `query`: Execute SoQL against a resource ID and return rows as JSON.
- SoQL query controls: apply selection, filtering, grouping, ordering, limits, and offsets.
- `ask_pipeworx`: On the gateway connection, ask questions in plain language and let the gateway choose and populate a tool across its catalog.

## Limitations and notes

The local stdio package contains only the three Data Fortworth tools. The hosted pack endpoint also lists shared Pipeworx meta-tools, so its tool count is larger than the pack's own tool set and may change as the gateway evolves. Both hosted URLs reach the same gateway and data sources; they differ in which tools are listed directly.

Queries depend on a dataset's resource ID and its Socrata schema. Use `datasets` to find an ID and `metadata` to confirm available columns before constructing SoQL. The integration is unofficial and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or published by the upstream provider.
