## Documentation

## What Craftwire MCP server does

Craftwire MCP server gives an AI agent operational access to two Minecraft environments: a Fabric client and a Paper server. On the client side, it can capture the player view or render from another camera position, press keys, send chat, inspect the HUD, and interact with open screens. It can also record gameplay or GUI layers to video and image files.

On the Paper side, the server can execute console commands and JavaScript with the Bukkit API, inspect or modify blocks, render regions, manage local server processes, and collect Bukkit events and exceptions. It also supports fake players that join through normal server events, allowing plugins to treat them much like real players.

## How it works

The MCP tools divide work between the client and server environments. Build scripts describe operations such as fills, hollow shapes, spheres, cylinders, roofs, layered designs, weighted block mixes, rotation, and mirroring. A build can be previewed, undone, partially removed, or cleared through the associated build controls.

Bots can chat, run commands, move, look, use items, fight, break blocks, open menus, and read their HUD. Pathfinding handles obstacles and common traversal features such as doors, ladders, water, steps, and drops while avoiding lava and fire. The server also supports Folia-specific bot threading diagnostics.

Performance tools sample server ticks or client frames and report ownership, entry points, hot methods, and timing statistics. Method tracing uses Java Flight Recorder to measure calls without modifying the target code.

## Setup and configuration

The Craftwire MCP server runs as a local MCP server and works with clients that can run local servers. The README identifies Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code, and Claude Desktop as compatible clients. Video recording requires ffmpeg supplied by the user. Local Paper process control does not accept the Minecraft EULA automatically, so that step remains an operator responsibility.

Build-focused sessions can use the `build` profile to reduce the tool list. Recording settings include resolution, frame rate, output format, camera movement, and capture layers. The documentation also describes transparent GUI and tooltip capture for compositing.

## Tools and capabilities

The Craftwire MCP server supports capabilities including:

- Capturing screenshots from the player view or an independent camera pose.
- Recording gameplay, camera paths, menus, tooltips, and transparent overlays.
- Reading and manipulating Minecraft menus with slot, hover, click, drag, and text-field operations.
- Building and reverting scripted structures.
- Running Paper console commands and Bukkit JavaScript.
- Querying, editing, rendering, and snapshotting world regions.
- Spawning and directing test bots.
- Deploying Gradle or Maven plugins, restarting the server, and reporting enablement logs and compiler locations.
- Recording events, grouping exceptions, profiling ticks, and tracing methods.

## Limitations and notes

Client interaction depends on a Fabric client, while server-side controls target Paper. The README also documents Folia handling for bot execution. Video output depends on the available ffmpeg installation. The server can report plugin and server behavior, but deployment still depends on the local project and server setup. Minecraft version badges in the repository identify versions 26.2 and 26.3.
