## Description
Civitai MCP.

## Tools
Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

- **search_models** — Search Civitai's catalog of community AI image-generation models (Stable Diffusion checkpoints, LoRAs, textual-inversion embeddings, ControlNets) by text query and/or type. Returns download stats, base model (SDXL / Pony / Flux / SD 1.5), creator and trained trigger words. Defaults to Safe-For-Work (mature content excluded). Keyless.
- **get_model** — Get full details for a single Civitai model by id — description, type, creator, tags, download/rating stats, and every version with its base model, trigger words and downloadable files. Try id 4201 ("Realistic Vision V6.0 B1", a SFW checkpoint). Defaults Safe-For-Work; nsfw flag is surfaced. Keyless.
- **list_by_type** — Browse the top community models of a given type on Civitai (most-downloaded first), optionally filtered to a specific base model. Great for "best SDXL checkpoints" or "top Flux LoRAs". Defaults to Safe-For-Work (mature excluded). Keyless.

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Install path detected from listing signals. Uses `npx` (confidence: high):

```json
"mcpServers": {
  "civitai": {
    "command": "npx",
    "args": ["-y","@pipeworx/mcp-civitai"]
  }
}
```

## Documentation

## What Civitai does

Civitai MCP server exposes catalog lookup for community models used in AI image generation. It covers Stable Diffusion checkpoints, LoRAs, textual-inversion embeddings, and ControlNets. Agents can search by text and model type, inspect one model in depth, or browse popular models within a type.

Returned information includes creators, tags, download and rating statistics, base-model families such as SDXL, Pony, Flux, and SD 1.5, plus trained trigger words. Detailed model lookups also include descriptions, all available versions, version-specific trigger words, and downloadable files. The tools default to Safe-For-Work results, and model details expose the NSFW state through an `nsfw` flag.

## How it works

The hosted MCP endpoint is available at `https://gateway.pipeworx.io/civitai/mcp`. It lists the Civitai tools together with shared Pipeworx meta-tools, so the tool list is larger than the three catalog tools described here. The gateway's `ask_pipeworx` tool can route natural-language questions across Pipeworx's wider catalog, including from the Civitai endpoint.

A full Pipeworx connection at `https://gateway.pipeworx.io/mcp` provides direct access to every pack. Both hosted URLs use the same gateway and data sources; they differ in which pack's tools are listed directly.

For a focused local connection, the `@pipeworx/mcp-civitai` package communicates over stdin and stdout. The standalone process handles MCP initialization, tool discovery, and tool calls for the Civitai pack without the gateway's shared meta-tools or routing layer.

The tools can also be called over HTTP without an MCP client. For example, the hosted tool endpoint accepts a JSON POST for `civitai_search_models`, and tool inspection is available through the corresponding `/v1/tools/` endpoint.

## Setup and configuration

Add the hosted endpoint to an MCP client with a server entry such as:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "civitai": {
      "url": "https://gateway.pipeworx.io/civitai/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

For a local, account-free stdio process, configure the package through `npx`:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "civitai": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@pipeworx/mcp-civitai"]
    }
  }
}
```

The package can also be started directly with `npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-civitai`. No environment variables are required for the documented hosted or standalone configurations, and the gateway's first calls do not require an account.

## Tools and capabilities

- `search_models` finds catalog entries using a text query, model type, or both. Results can include download statistics, creator details, base-model information, and trigger words. Results default to Safe-For-Work content.
- `get_model` retrieves a model by numeric ID, including its description, type, creator, tags, ratings, downloads, versions, base models, trigger words, and downloadable files. The example ID `4201` refers to the “Realistic Vision V6.0 B1” checkpoint.
- `list_by_type` returns top models for a selected type in most-downloaded order. An optional base-model filter supports queries such as SDXL checkpoints or Flux LoRAs.

## Limitations and notes

This is an independent, unofficial Civitai integration and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or published by Civitai. The hosted pack endpoint includes Pipeworx meta-tools in addition to the Civitai-specific tools. The local package does not include those shared tools. Safe-For-Work filtering is the default behavior for the catalog tools, so clients should account for the exposed `nsfw` field when handling model details.
