## Documentation

## What CheckMyPayRate MCP server does

CheckMyPayRate MCP server gives AI assistants access to salary benchmarks for 20 countries and 13 sectors. The figures represent gross annual pay in each country's local currency. Supported countries include the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Canada, Australia, and several European countries. Sectors range from national average and IT & software to healthcare, education, construction, retail, and hospitality.

The data is derived from official OECD and Eurostat statistics. A local CSV snapshot and public JSON and CSV endpoints are also available, but the MCP interface is intended for querying the benchmark data from an AI assistant.

## How it works

CheckMyPayRate MCP server runs remotely and uses Streamable HTTP. Connect an MCP client to `https://checkmypayrate.com/mcp`; no authentication is required. The client can first request the valid country and sector codes, then use those codes to retrieve a benchmark or evaluate a salary against it.

National averages come from the OECD average annual wage series for full-time equivalent employees. Sector values are calculated by applying Eurostat sector ratios to the national average. For most covered European countries and Norway, the ratios come from each country's data. Canada and Australia use the EU-27 average sector structure as an estimate. Switzerland has sector values only where Swiss data is available. The United States and United Kingdom do not have sector figures in this dataset.

## Setup and configuration

Use an MCP client that supports remote Streamable HTTP servers and configure it with the endpoint below:

```text
https://checkmypayrate.com/mcp
```

No API key, username, password, or environment variable is required. The service is accessed over the network, so a client needs connectivity to the CheckMyPayRate endpoint.

## Tools and capabilities

CheckMyPayRate MCP server provides three tools:

- `list_options` returns the supported country and sector codes. Use it to validate inputs before making a benchmark query.
- `get_salary_benchmark` returns the benchmark for a selected country and sector.
- `compare_salary` compares a supplied salary with the relevant benchmark and reports the result as a percentage.

These tools support questions such as comparing pay between a country and sector, checking a salary against a benchmark, or discovering which query values are available.

## Limitations and notes

Sector benchmarks are modelled estimates rather than directly measured salaries. Their sector ratios are calculated per employee, not per full-time equivalent employee, so sectors with substantial part-time employment—including healthcare, education, retail, and hospitality—may appear lower than full-time pay would suggest.

The figures are not adjusted for cost of living. Country values use local currencies, so cross-country comparisons may require separate currency or purchasing-power analysis. The live dataset is updated daily, and each record includes a reference year, source, and last-updated field. Dataset reuse is licensed under CC BY 4.0 and requires attribution to CheckMyPayRate and its OECD/Eurostat-derived data.
