## What the business MCP server does

The business MCP server provides eight hosted tools for finance, bookkeeping, legal operations, and small-business operations. Its documented business-math use cases include unit economics, cash runway, loan payments, and target pricing. The wider business server contains 30 finance and SMB operations persona-skill products, so it is suited to agent workflows that combine calculations with operational business tasks.

Calculations run through Moltline Studio's hosted fleet rather than inside the local bridge. The service offers a free tier with no registration, account, or credentials. Premium tools require a Moltline license.

## How it works

The business MCP server is available at the hosted Streamable HTTP endpoint using the `business` server slug. A compatible MCP client can connect directly to `https://mcp.moltlinestudio.com/business` without installing the repository.

For stdio-only clients, the repository supplies a small Python bridge. The bridge reads newline-delimited JSON-RPC from standard input, sends each request to the hosted business endpoint, and relays the response to standard output. It preserves the server session identifier and negotiated MCP protocol version. The bridge does not inspect, store, or report request traffic.

One process handles each server connection. Network access to the hosted fleet is required, including when the bridge runs in Docker.

## Setup and configuration

Direct Streamable HTTP is the preferred setup when the client supports it. Configure the client with the business endpoint and no local command.

For a stdio connection, clone the repository and run the bridge with Python 3.9 or newer:

Client configuration points to `moltline_mcp.py` with `business` as its server argument. Docker is also supported after building the provided image. The command accepts `--timeout`, `--list`, and `--version`; the default request timeout is 300 seconds and can be changed with `MOLTLINE_TIMEOUT`.

`MOLTLINE_BASE_URL` can override the fleet base URL for testing. Set `MOLTLINE_DEBUG=1` for diagnostic messages on stderr. To unlock premium tools, set `MOLTLINE_LICENSE`; the bridge sends it in the `X-Moltline-License` header and does not place it in command arguments, URLs, or logs.
