## Tools
Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

- **boi_exchange_rates** — All current Bank of Israel representative exchange rates vs the Israeli Shekel (ILS). Returns one entry per currency with currentExchangeRate (shekels per `unit` of the foreign currency), currentChange (% vs previous), unit (1 for most, 100 for some like JPY — per-1 rate = currentExchangeRate / unit), and lastUpdate. Use this for a snapshot of all available currencies.
- **boi_exchange_rate** — Current Bank of Israel representative exchange rate for a single currency vs the Israeli Shekel (ILS), by 3-letter ISO code. Returns currentExchangeRate (shekels per `unit`), currentChange (%), unit, and lastUpdate. Note `unit` (e.g. JPY is per 100). Example keys: USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CHF, CAD, AUD.
- **boi_interest_rate** — The current Bank of Israel (BOI) policy interest rate for ISRAEL — the Israeli benchmark rate set by the Bank of Israel Monetary Committee, in % per annum. Returns rate, the date it took effect (effective_since), the previous rate and when that one took effect, plus recent decision history, sourced from the Monetary Committee's own published decisions (not just currentInterest's bare snapshot). Also returns nextInterestDate (the next scheduled decision) and lastPublishedDate. Scope: Israel only.

## What Boi Il does

Boi Il exposes selected Bank of Israel public data through MCP tools. Its scope is Israel-focused and covers two related areas: representative foreign-exchange rates against the Israeli shekel (ILS), and the Bank of Israel’s policy interest rate.

The exchange-rate collection tool returns one record for each available currency. Each record includes the rate in shekels, the percentage change from the previous value, the quoted unit, and the last update time. The single-currency tool accepts a three-letter ISO currency code such as USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CHF, CAD, or AUD.

The interest-rate tool reports the Israeli benchmark rate in percent per year. It also includes the date the current rate began, the preceding rate and its effective date, recent Monetary Committee decision history, the next scheduled interest decision, and the most recent publication date.

## How it works

A hosted MCP connection is available at `https://gateway.pipeworx.io/boi-il/mcp`. MCP clients can use that endpoint to discover and call the Boi Il tools. The endpoint also exposes shared Pipeworx meta-tools, including routing and discovery functions, so the tool list is larger than the three Boi Il-specific tools.

The same data can be accessed through the full Pipeworx gateway at `https://gateway.pipeworx.io/mcp`. In either connection, `ask_pipeworx` can accept a natural-language question and select the relevant tool and arguments.

For clients that use local processes, `@pipeworx/mcp-boi-il` provides a stdio bridge. It forwards calls to the hosted gateway, so network access is required and there is no offline operation. The tools can also be called over HTTP with the Pipeworx tools API.

Anonymous use does not require an API key and is limited to 50 calls per day. A free Pipeworx account raises the allowance to 200 calls per day; set `PIPEWORX_API_KEY` in the client environment to authenticate. The key is sent as a bearer token. Set `PIPEWORX_META_TOOLS=1` if the local bridge should list the shared gateway meta-tools as well as the Boi Il tools.

## Tools and capabilities

- `boi_exchange_rates`: Retrieves the current representative exchange rates for all available currencies relative to ILS.
- `boi_exchange_rate`: Retrieves the current rate for one currency using its three-letter ISO code.
- `boi_interest_rate`: Retrieves the current Israeli policy rate, effective dates, recent decisions, and upcoming decision timing.
- Hosted MCP access through HTTPS.
- Local stdio access through the Pipeworx npm package.
- Direct HTTP tool calls through the Pipeworx API.

## Limitations and notes

Exchange-rate values are quoted per the returned `unit`. Most currencies use a unit of 1, while some, such as JPY, may be quoted per 100 units; divide the reported exchange rate by `unit` when a per-one-currency value is needed.

The interest-rate tool covers Israel only. The npm bridge depends on the hosted gateway and cannot operate without network access. Pack endpoints include shared Pipeworx meta-tools, while the local bridge lists only the Boi Il tools unless explicitly configured otherwise.
