## Documentation

## What the Bitculator MCP server does

Bitculator MCP server exposes hosted cryptocurrency market data to MCP-compatible clients. The service covers both current and historical information, allowing an agent to identify coins, inspect market conditions, compare exchanges, and perform calculations based on real price history.

Its read-only tools include coin search and profiles, prices for batches of up to 100 coins, OHLCV candles, historical prices for a specified date, market movers, trending assets, global market statistics, and market-cap or volume history. Sentiment-related tools provide Fear & Greed data and an altseason index. Other tools cover currency conversion, exchange profiles and rankings, exchange trust scores, trading venues for a coin, technical indicators, futures liquidations, and dollar-cost-averaging backtests.

## How it works

The Bitculator MCP server is hosted at `https://bitculator.com/mcp` and uses Streamable HTTP. There is no local package or process to install. An MCP client sends requests to the endpoint with an MCP key in either an `Authorization: Bearer <key>` header or an `X-API-Key: <key>` header.

Tools are read-only and publish an output schema. Responses are available as text and structured content. Prices, rates, and supplies use decimal strings to preserve precision. The service identifies itself in the MCP registry as `com.bitculator/market-data`.

## Setup and configuration

Create an MCP key through the Bitculator MCP console. The README states that the free MCP plan does not require a card, while some tools may require a paid plan. Data API keys and widget keys are not accepted as substitutes for an MCP key.

Configure the remote server in an MCP client using the endpoint and an authentication header. The repository includes connection examples for Claude Code, Cursor, and VS Code, as well as instructions for the Claude API MCP connector and Smithery. Keep the key in client settings or another protected configuration location rather than committing it to a shared file.

## Tools and capabilities

The Bitculator MCP server includes tools for:

- Resolving coin names or symbols and retrieving coin metadata.
- Fetching current prices, historical prices, OHLCV candles, movers, and trending coins.
- Reading global market totals, dominance, counts, sentiment, and market history.
- Reviewing exchanges, trust-score factors, and coin-specific trading venues.
- Inspecting RSI, MACD, SMA, ADX, MFI, CCI, OBV, VWAP, and other technical measures.
- Converting between crypto and fiat, summarizing futures liquidations, and backtesting DCA plans.

## Limitations and notes

The Bitculator MCP server only exposes read-only tools, so it cannot place trades, modify exchange accounts, or write market data. Access is remote and depends on the hosted Bitculator service and a valid MCP key. Some capabilities may require a paid MCP plan. The repository documentation and configuration are MIT licensed, but the Bitculator service remains subject to Bitculator's terms of service.
