## Description
Credit notes against your invoices and purchase orders to your suppliers, on the invoice engine.

## Tools
Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

- **credit_note_create** — Credit an invoice: the whole thing, a gross amount, or named lines with quantities
- **credit_note_list** — Every credit note, with the credited total per currency. Filter by invoice, client or date
- **credit_note_get** — One credit note in full
- **credit_note_pdf** — The A4 PDF, titled CREDIT NOTE and carrying the invoice number it reverses (Pro)
- **credit_note_text** — The plain-text version to paste into an email
- **credit_note_delete** — Remove one that was never posted to its invoice or rendered: the free monthly slot comes back
- **purchase_order_create** — Raise an order: line items, VAT, currency, expected delivery date
- **purchase_order_list** — Every order with its status: open, partially received, received
- **purchase_order_get** — One order in full, with its receipts
- **purchase_order_pdf** — The A4 PDF, titled PURCHASE ORDER (Pro)
- **purchase_order_text** — The plain-text version to send the supplier
- **purchase_order_receive** — Mark an order received, in full or in part
- **purchase_order_delete** — Remove one with nothing received against it and no render: the free monthly slot comes back
- **billing_docs_report** — Credited per currency, on order per currency, deliveries past their date (Pro)

## Documentation

## What billing docs MCP server does

The billing docs MCP server handles two document types: credit notes and purchase orders. Credit notes can reverse an entire invoice, a gross amount, or selected invoice lines with quantities. The server checks that a credit does not exceed the amount originally charged. Purchase orders include line items, VAT, currency, and an expected delivery date.

It uses the invoices, clients, and shared business profile maintained by the `mcp-invoice` server. Running both servers provides consistent names, addresses, VAT IDs, default currency, money handling, and formatting. The billing docs MCP server also prevents duplicate submissions by document ID and allows deletion only when the document has no dependent posting, receipt, or rendered output.

## How it works

Credit notes can be listed with filters for invoice, client, or date, then retrieved in full. Purchase orders expose their current state—open, partially received, or received—and include receipt details. An order can be marked received in full or in part.

Text output is available for copying into emails. Pro users can render A4 PDFs for credit notes and purchase orders; the credit note PDF identifies the invoice it reverses. Pro also adds a report covering credited totals by currency, order totals by currency, and deliveries that have passed their expected date.

The local build stores data under `${XDG_DATA_HOME:-~/.local/share}/mcp-servers/billing-docs/`. The README says local operation makes no account, API key, or network call necessary, and that license keys are checked offline. A hosted streamable-HTTP deployment is also documented at `https://mcp.zovo.one/mcp/billing-docs`, where requests require a bearer token or a token in the URL path.

## Setup and configuration

The billing docs MCP server can be installed from the downloadable Claude Desktop `.mcpb` bundle, built from a cloned repository, or accessed through the hosted endpoint. A source build uses `npm install && npm run build`, followed by an MCP stdio configuration that launches `dist/index.js` with Node.js.

The package is not currently published on npm, so `npx -y @theluckystrike/mcp-billing-docs` returns 404 according to the README. Use the bundle, source build, or hosted connection instead. No required environment variables are documented.

## Tools and capabilities

The billing docs MCP server provides tools to:

- Create, list, inspect, render, text-export, and delete credit notes.
- Create, list, inspect, render, text-export, receive, and delete purchase orders.
- Produce billing reports for credited amounts, order amounts, and overdue deliveries.
- Check or activate the free and Pro license state.

Free use permits five stored documents per calendar month across credit notes and purchase orders. Deleting an eligible unused document returns a slot. Full and partial credits, per-line credits, VAT, multiple currencies, receiving orders, and text exports are available without Pro; PDFs and reports require Pro. The server also exposes an `open-orders` resource and a `chase_deliveries` prompt.
