## Description
BashCut's agent kit: editing skills (footage survey, beat cuts, audio mix, captions, colour, voiceover…) and the BashCut MCP server for Claude Code and Codex.

## Documentation

## What bashcut-agent-kit does

bashcut-agent-kit MCP server supplies Claude Code and Codex with editing skills that operate a BashCut project. The kit covers the work around an edit, including footage inventory, shot descriptions, quote-based selection, beat or sentence cuts, audio mixing, captions, voiceover, color grading, effects, motion graphics, stock media, and review.

The kit separates editing guidance from media processing. Its skills decide what to inspect, where to cut, which treatment fits a moment, and how to verify the result. BashCut performs the edits through its own commands, so the kit does not pre-render the picture or sound. Measurement scripts can inspect color and LUT files, while asset scripts can retrieve audio, stock media, or fonts from supported sources.

This fits the 🎥 Multimedia Process category because it coordinates an agent-driven video workflow from survey through review and export preparation. It is intended for projects edited in BashCut, not as a general-purpose video editor for unrelated applications.

## How it works

BashCut must be running because its MCP server communicates with the open application. Claude Code and Codex load the skills as plugin or agent skills; in Claude Code, they appear with the `bc:` prefix, such as `bc:audio-mix` and `bc:edit-workflow`.

The `edit-workflow` skill acts as the central process. It supports intake, planning, staged checks, draft and process audits, run logs, and a quick path that applies a cut with related captions, titles, and ducking. Other skills provide focused procedures. For example, `footage-survey` uses BashCut media commands for inventory, contact sheets, descriptions, frames, and synchronization, while `review` supports pass/fail findings, severity, verification, and acceptance with a reason.

Asset fetching and measurement remain separate from BashCut’s editing commands. The kit’s fetch scripts use BashCut’s Online Resources plugin, and audio measurement is performed by BashCut. Some skills depend on matching BashCut plugins, such as transcription for captions and synthesis for voice.

## Setup and configuration

bashcut-agent-kit can be used from BashCut’s built-in Claude and Codex tabs without an additional in-app installation. For Claude Code, add the repository as a plugin marketplace and install the `bc` plugin. The plugin starts `scripts/bashcut-mcp.sh`, which looks for `bashcut-mcp` in `/Applications` or `~/Applications`; `BASHCUT_MCP` can override that location.

For Codex, clone the repository and run `scripts/install-codex.sh`. The script links the skills under `~/.agents/skills` and adds the MCP server. Passing `--uninstall` removes that setup. The repository also includes a local plugin-directory option for testing with Claude Code.

The runtime requirements are BashCut with `ui frame`, Claude Code or Codex, `ffmpeg`, and `ffprobe`. `uv` is needed by `grade.py`, which installs NumPy and Pillow on its first run. Resource providers may require environment keys, including `FREESOUND_API_KEY` for Freesound effects and provider keys for Pixabay or Pexels stock media.

## Tools and capabilities

- Survey footage, generate contact sheets, describe clips, and check camera-to-screen synchronization.
- Build rough cuts from quoted ranges, takes, padding, and length constraints.
- Measure and shape audio by role, including fades, ducking, loudness, music, and sound effects.
- Create captions, titles, chapter cards, voiceover, color looks, transitions, speed ramps, and reframes.
- Plan visuals, motion graphics, stock assets, icons, and style references.
- Review edits with evidence and record workflow stages, corrections, lessons, and project knowledge.

The MCP layer gives agents access to BashCut’s editing workflow; the individual skills describe when and how to use those operations.

## Limitations and notes

Topic recipes such as vlog planning, travel, publishing, and hook scripts are not included in this kit. They come from BashCut’s Vlog plugin. Capability-specific plugins must also be installed when a skill needs them. The Claude Code hooks for run logging and correction handling do not have Codex equivalents. Asset availability depends on the configured official APIs and their environment keys.
