## Description
AI podcast editing. Sign up in one call, send audio by link or from disk, get an edited episode.

## Tools
Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

- **barevalue_register** — Creates a Barevalue account and returns a working API key in one call, with no password and no email click before the first order. The email is the address of the person the account is for, and that person receives a verification link. Until the link is clicked the account has a small free allowance ("allowance" in the result), and after it the full free monthly allowance. The returned api_key is what the other tools take as api_key. An address that already has an account gets no second key here (registration_failed): its owner makes one at barevalue.com, Settings, API Keys.
- **barevalue_pricing** — What AI podcast editing costs and what it includes: the free monthly allowance, plans, supported audio formats, languages, length limits and features. No API key needed.
- **barevalue_api_status** — Service health, queue depth and expected processing times. No API key needed.
- **barevalue_account** — Account details: the editing minutes left in the free monthly allowance, credit balance and any limits on the account.
- **barevalue_estimate** — Reports what an AI podcast edit of a given length would use from the account and whether the account can cover it, before any order is placed. Nothing is charged.
- **barevalue_validate** — Pre-checks a podcast or other audio recording at a URL without ordering an edit: confirms the link downloads, measures the length and checks that the file is speech and not music or silence. Nothing is charged.
- **barevalue_upload** — Upload an audio file from this machine, for a recording that has no link. Give the path to the file. Returns an upload_id: then call barevalue_submit_url with that upload_id in place of file_url. One audio file with one audio track, up to 750 MB and 60 minutes. An upload can be ordered once, within 2 hours.
- **barevalue_submit_url** — Edits a podcast episode or interview recording with AI and returns the finished audio. The edit removes background noise, hum and hiss, trims filler words such as um and uh, cuts long pauses and dead air, evens out the levels of the speakers and masters the loudness to -16 LUFS. Cuts or other changes can be asked for in special_instructions. Every order includes a transcript with speaker labels, and an episode of 10 minutes or more also gets show notes and short highlight clips for social media. It takes a recording in MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, AAC, OGG, WMA or AIFF, in any of 58 languages, and delivers MP3 at up to 320 kbps, with a WAV as well when the original is lossless. Audio only, one file with one audio track, up to 60 minutes. It edits the recording itself and creates no audio with AI: no translation or dubbing, no synthetic voices, no generated music or sound effects, no video. Free within the monthly allowance of the account. Returns an order_id. The order's progress and result are reported by barevalue_status. A file with no link is ordered with the upload_id that barevalue_upload returns, in place of file_url.
- **barevalue_status** — Status of a podcast editing order. While processing it reports the current step, percentage and estimated seconds remaining. When status is "done" it lists each file with its kind (edited_audio, clip, show_notes, transcript and others) and a download URL valid for 24 hours, says what the edit changed, and says what is not included and why. When status is "failed" it gives the reason and what can be done next.
- **barevalue_content** — The show notes, the full transcript with speaker labels and the edit summary of an edited podcast episode, as text, with no file to download and parse. Available once barevalue_status reports "done". The include parameter limits the answer to the parts named; the transcript of a long episode is large.
- **barevalue_feedback** — Records the user's rating of a finished order, positive or negative, with an optional comment and list of issues. Our team is told. A second rating for the same order replaces the first, comment included.
- **barevalue_request_revision** — Re-edits a finished order with new instructions, for example "keep the story about the dog, it was cut" or "the intro music is too loud". It creates a new order from the original recording and returns its order_id. The progress and result of that order are reported by barevalue_status. It uses the same minutes from the allowance as the original order. Every revision is made from the original recording, so one request carries everything that is to be different. It returns the edited audio. The show notes and clips are made again only when the instructions ask for them.
- **barevalue_updates** — Everything that happened on the account since a given moment: an order was received, is ready, or failed and why, or the email address was confirmed. It carries what our emails say, so the user can follow an order without watching an inbox. The result includes a cursor, and a call that gives it back as since starts where this one ended. Without since it covers the last 24 hours. Each update has an id that never changes, so the same update can be recognised if it comes back on two consecutive calls.
- **barevalue_list_orders** — Recent orders on the account with their status.

## Documentation

## What Barevalue does

The Barevalue MCP server connects agents to Barevalue’s podcast editing service, which processes raw recordings and returns a finished episode. Editing can fix noise and levels, remove filler words and dead air, and produce a transcript, show notes, and an edit summary. Longer episodes may also receive highlight clips.

The service is intended for the 🎙️ Podcasts category and supports an end-to-end order flow: register or authenticate, provide audio, submit editing instructions, monitor progress, retrieve results, and request another pass when needed. Agents can also report whether an edit was satisfactory.

## How it works

The hosted server is available over Streamable HTTP at `https://barevalue.com/mcp`. An agent can register with an email address through `barevalue_register`; for a new account, the response includes an API key that the server retains for the session. An existing account requires an API key created in Barevalue account settings.

Audio can be submitted by URL with `barevalue_submit_url`. For recordings stored on the agent’s machine, the `barevalue-mcp` npm package acts as a local bridge and provides `barevalue_upload`, which sends the file to Barevalue storage before the order is placed.

A typical workflow uploads or references the recording, submits editing instructions, checks `barevalue_status` until processing finishes, and reads the resulting download links and text content. `barevalue_content` returns the transcript, show notes, and edit summary. If the result needs changes, `barevalue_request_revision` accepts new instructions for a finished order.

## Setup and configuration

For a hosted connection, configure an MCP client with `https://barevalue.com/mcp`. This endpoint lets the agent register itself and manage its session key. The `/mcp/connect` endpoint uses browser sign-in first and is intended for connector interfaces that expect an authenticated account.

For local files, configure the client to run `npx -y barevalue-mcp`. Node.js 18 or later is required for this bridge. Claude Code can add it with `claude mcp add barevalue -- npx -y barevalue-mcp`; other MCP clients can use the same command and arguments in their server configuration.

Set `BAREVALUE_API_KEY` when an existing account key should be used. It is optional for initial registration. When set, the configured key is the only key used, and an invalid value stops startup or produces an authentication error that requires replacing or removing the variable before restarting.

## Tools and capabilities

The available tools include:

- `barevalue_register` for creating an account and obtaining a key.
- `barevalue_upload` and `barevalue_submit_url` for supplying recordings.
- `barevalue_validate` for checking audio at a URL before ordering.
- `barevalue_estimate` for checking whether an order length will be accepted.
- `barevalue_status` for progress, remaining time, download links, and edit changes.
- `barevalue_content` for transcripts, show notes, and summaries.
- `barevalue_feedback` and `barevalue_request_revision` for post-edit responses.
- `barevalue_updates`, `barevalue_list_orders`, and `barevalue_account` for account activity, order history, and remaining minutes or pace limits.
- `barevalue_pricing` and `barevalue_api_status` for plan and processing information.

## Limitations and notes

Each order contains one audio file and one audio track. Files can be up to 60 minutes and 750 MB, using supported formats including MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, AAC, OGG, Opus, WMA, or AIFF. The free plan permits one active order and limits processing to 120 minutes within five hours; a new account can edit 30 minutes until its email link is confirmed, then receives 10 free hours per month.

An uploaded file must be ordered within two hours and can only be ordered once. The Barevalue MCP server does not provide a local audio editor; it submits work to the service and returns the resulting assets and text. The hosted service uses links, while local-file handling depends on the npm bridge.
