## Description
QR codes and barcodes from chat: URLs, WiFi joins, vCards, SEPA payment QR that a banking app can scan, Code 128 and EAN-13, as SVG or PNG. No network, no account.

## Tools
Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

- **qr_create** — Text or a URL as a QR code, at any error correction level, SVG or PNG
- **qr_wifi** — A code that joins a WiFi network when scanned
- **qr_vcard** — A code that adds a contact (vCard 3.0)
- **qr_payment_sepa** — An EPC069-12 payment code a euro banking app scans: IBAN, name, amount, reference
- **invoice_payment_qr** — The payment code for an invoice, using the IBAN and name from your shared business profile
- **barcode_create** — Code 128, EAN-13, EAN-8 or UPC-A, with the check digit computed or verified
- **barcode_batch** — Many codes in one call, into a directory (Pro)
- **code_list** — What you have generated, and how much of this month's free allowance is left

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Install path detected from listing signals. Uses `npx` (confidence: high):

## Documentation

## What barcode does

The barcode MCP server turns structured or plain-text input into scannable QR codes and linear barcodes. QR operations cover ordinary text and URLs, WiFi join data, vCard 3.0 contact records, and EPC069-12 SEPA payment records. The payment tools accept values such as an IBAN, beneficiary name, euro amount, and payment reference. Invoice payment QR generation can reuse the IBAN and name stored in a shared business profile.

For product and labeling workflows, the barcode MCP server supports Code 128, EAN-13, EAN-8, and UPC-A. EAN check digits can be calculated when omitted or checked when supplied. Invalid values are rejected instead of being rendered as a potentially different product code. IBANs used in payment codes are also validated before output is created.

## How it works

The barcode MCP server exposes its functions as MCP tools that an MCP-compatible client can call from a conversation. QR output supports selectable error-correction levels. SVG is available for scalable printing, while PNG output is subject to the service plan and requested dimensions.

Generated codes are written to the location specified by the caller. A generation register is stored under `~/.local/share/mcp-servers/barcode/`, or under `$XDG_DATA_HOME` when that variable is set. The `code_list` tool reports generated items and the remaining allowance for the current month.

Local execution performs drawing on the user’s machine and does not include network code, uploads, or telemetry. A separate hosted option is available at `https://mcp.zovo.one/mcp/barcode`; it uses streamable HTTP and requires a token in an authorization header or URL path.

## Setup and configuration

For a local installation, clone the repository, run `npm install`, and build with `npm run build`. Configure the MCP client to launch `node` with the absolute path to `dist/index.js`. A downloadable `barcode.mcpb` bundle is also available for Claude Desktop.

The package is not currently published to npm, so an `npx -y @theluckystrike/mcp-barcode` setup does not work despite example snippets that reference it. The supported local paths are the bundle or a clone-and-build installation. For hosted use, obtain a token from the listed connect or token endpoint and send it when connecting to the streamable-HTTP URL.

## Tools and capabilities

- `qr_create` creates text or URL QR codes in SVG or PNG with selectable error correction.
- `qr_wifi` creates a QR code containing WiFi join details.
- `qr_vcard` creates a vCard 3.0 contact QR code.
- `qr_payment_sepa` creates an EPC069-12 euro payment QR code.
- `invoice_payment_qr` creates an invoice payment code using shared business-profile details.
- `barcode_create` creates Code 128, EAN-13, EAN-8, or UPC-A symbols and handles check digits.
- `barcode_batch` creates multiple barcodes in a directory; this is a Pro capability and supports up to 500 rows per call.
- `code_list` reports generated codes and free monthly usage.
- `license_status` and `license_activate` report or activate a Pro license.

## Limitations and notes

The free plan allows 20 codes per calendar month. SVG output is available on the free plan, while PNG and batch generation require Pro; Pro PNG sizes range from 32 to 4000 pixels. Pro removes the monthly code limit and enables batch generation.

License keys are checked offline. The local mode is designed for users who do not want code data uploaded or processed through a network service. Hosted mode is a separate deployment and requires authentication. Since npm publication is pending, package-manager installation through `npx` should not be used until the package becomes available.
