## Description
Check if a US stock is halal (Sharia-compliant), with the dates its verdict changed.

## Tools
Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

- **check_halal_stock** — Screens one US-listed ticker (e.g. `NVDA`, `AAPL`): business activity, interest-bearing debt and cash vs market cap, interest income vs revenue. Returns the verdict, each check with its ratio, and the verdict's change history.
- **recent_halal_verdict_changes** — Stocks that recently cleared or broke the screen, with dates.

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Remote MCP endpoint (confidence: high). Install path detected from listing signals. Add as a URL/SSE server in your client:

```json
"mcpServers": {
  "barakah-halal-stock-screen": {
    "url": "https://app.barakahprofits.com/mcp"
  }
}
```

## Documentation

## What Barakah Halal Stock Screen MCP server does

Barakah Halal Stock Screen MCP server lets an MCP-compatible assistant evaluate whether a US-listed stock meets its Sharia screening criteria. The service returns a verdict, the individual checks behind it, the relevant ratios, and the dates associated with changes in the verdict.

The possible results are `PASSES FINANCIAL SCREEN`, `NEEDS REVIEW`, and `NOT HALAL`. The screen considers the company's business activity, interest-bearing debt relative to market capitalization, cash and interest-bearing securities relative to market capitalization, and interest income relative to revenue.

## How it works

The hosted endpoint is available at `https://app.barakahprofits.com/mcp`. An MCP client sends a ticker request to `check_halal_stock`, such as `NVDA` or `AAPL`, and receives the screening result with supporting checks and verdict history. `recent_halal_verdict_changes` returns stocks that have recently passed or failed the screen, along with the dates of those changes.

The methodology uses an AAOIFI-style framework. The business-activity check excludes core businesses involving interest-based finance, alcohol, tobacco, gambling, pork, adult content, or weapons. The stated financial thresholds are less than 30% of market capitalization for interest-bearing debt, less than 30% for cash and interest-bearing securities, and less than 5% of revenue for interest income.

Because the debt and cash measures use market capitalization, a stock's price movement can affect whether it crosses a threshold. The dated history is therefore useful when a result needs time-based context.

## Setup and configuration

No local installation and no API key are required. Add the hosted HTTP endpoint to an MCP-compatible client. The README provides connection instructions for Claude, Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, and VS Code.

For Claude Code, register the endpoint with the HTTP transport:

```sh
claude mcp add --transport http barakah-halal https://app.barakahprofits.com/mcp
```

Cursor and VS Code can reference the same URL in their MCP configuration. Once connected, ask questions such as whether a ticker is halal or which stocks changed status recently.

## Tools and capabilities

- `check_halal_stock`: evaluates one US-listed ticker, reports the verdict, shows each screening check and ratio, and includes the verdict's change history.
- `recent_halal_verdict_changes`: lists stocks that recently cleared or broke the screen and supplies the corresponding dates.

The Barakah Halal Stock Screen MCP server is limited to US-listed stocks. Financial data is supplied by Twelve Data, according to the project documentation.

## Limitations and notes

A passing financial screen should not be treated as a complete halal determination. The documentation notes that minor non-compliant business lines are not itemized in the filings data, so the company's revenue mix may require additional review. The result is an automated estimate, not a fatwa or financial advice.

The service does not provide a local data store or documented configuration variables. Its output reflects the hosted service and its public, dated verdict ledger at the time of the request.
