## Documentation

## What Ball Ranks does

The Ball Ranks MCP server gives agent clients access to published fantasy rankings and player projections for football and basketball. It is designed for read-only lookups: clients can request rankings or projections, but the available tools do not modify Ball Ranks data or account settings.

The service is relevant to the 🏃 Sports category, especially workflows that compare players, inspect weekly or season-long rankings, or retrieve projection data for fantasy analysis. Responses include structured content and a canonical `sourceUrl`, allowing a client to identify the Ball Ranks page or source associated with the returned data.

## How it works

Clients connect to the production remote MCP endpoint at `https://ballranks.com/api/mcp`. The server exposes its live tool list for client discovery, so the set of available capabilities can expand without requiring a different server URL. The repository packages configuration for several agent-plugin environments, while the data service itself remains remote.

The current tools are:

- `get_week_rankings` for weekly rankings.
- `get_season_rankings` for season rankings.
- `get_player_rankings` for player ranking data.
- `get_player_projections` for player projection data.

Each tool is read-only. The available material does not specify the complete request fields or response schema; developers should consult the Ball Ranks developer documentation or OpenAPI specification for those details.

## Setup and configuration

The Ball Ranks MCP server can be installed through clients that support Agent Plugins, or by using the platform-specific manifests included in the repository. These include configurations for Agent Plugins, ChatGPT, Codex, Claude Code, Grok Build, Google Antigravity, and Gemini CLI installations. The repository also includes a registry manifest and a local Codex compatibility manifest.

For Google Antigravity, the documented native installation uses `agy plugin install ./antigravity-plugin` after cloning the repository. Gemini CLI enterprise and paid API-key users can install the public repository with `gemini extensions install https://github.com/Ollynov/ball-ranks-plugin`. After installation, the README recommends checking the client’s extension or MCP listing to confirm that the server and tools loaded.

No environment variables are documented as required. Anonymous Model Zero access is available with lower request limits. Developers who need account-level limits can create a Ball Ranks API key at the documented account URL; clients are responsible for storing credentials securely. The repository does not store API keys.

## Tools and capabilities

Use `get_week_rankings` when the workflow needs current weekly fantasy rankings, and `get_season_rankings` for season-level rankings. `get_player_rankings` supports player-focused ranking lookups, while `get_player_projections` returns projection data for individual players or supported requests. Exact parameters and schemas should be taken from the live tool definitions or the published OpenAPI document rather than inferred from the tool names.

Because the Ball Ranks MCP server is read-only, it fits retrieval and analysis workflows rather than administrative tasks, roster updates, or other write operations. The returned `sourceUrl` can be preserved when an agent needs to cite or link back to the underlying Ball Ranks source.

## Limitations and notes

The server provides published Ball Ranks data; the supplied material does not promise live scoring, league synchronization, roster management, or personalized league calculations. It also does not describe write tools. Request limits differ between anonymous access and account-level API-key access.

The repository’s MIT license applies to its packaging files and skill instructions. Ball Ranks data and services remain subject to the Ball Ranks Terms of Service. Support is available through `help@ballranks.com` or the Ball Ranks support page; support requests should not include passwords, sign-in cookies, or full API keys.
