## Description
Live scores, standings, top scorers, player stats, and knockout brackets for football, basketball, cricket, and tennis. Free public API, no key required.

## Tools
Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

- **get_matches** — List live and recent matches for a sport. Returns up to `limit` matches with scores, status, kickoff time and team logos. Good default for 'what's happening in football right now?'.
- **get_match_detail** — Get detailed data for a single match by its slug (e.g. 'manchester-united-vs-liverpool'): score, status, timeline, lineups. Slugs come from get_matches results or match URLs on sportscore.com.
- **get_team_schedule** — Get a team's past and upcoming fixtures by team slug (e.g. 'barcelona', 'manchester-united', 'los-angeles-lakers').
- **get_standings** — Get the current standings table for a league or competition by slug (e.g. 'premier-league', 'la-liga', 'nba').
- **get_top_scorers** — Get the top scorers (or top assisters) for a competition. Useful for 'who's leading the Premier League scoring charts?'.
- **get_player** — Get player statistics and metadata by player slug (e.g. 'lionel-messi', 'lebron-james', 'virat-kohli').
- **get_bracket** — Get the knockout bracket for a tournament (e.g. 'uefa-champions-league', 'nba-playoffs').
- **get_tracker** — Get live match tracker data (position, animation frames) for a match by numeric id. Usually only useful for football.

## Claude Desktop Quick Installation
Install path detected from listing signals. Uses `npx` (confidence: high):

```json
"mcpServers": {
  "sportscore-mcp": {
    "command": "npx",
    "args": ["-y","sportscore-mcp"],
    "env": {
      "SPORTSCORE_API_BASE": "",
      "SPORTSCORE_UA": "",
      "SPORTSCORE_HTTP_PORT": "",
      "SPORTSCORE_HTTP_HOST": "",
      "SPORTSCORE_NO_TELEMETRY": ""
    }
  }
}
```

**Requires environment variables:** `SPORTSCORE_API_BASE`, `SPORTSCORE_UA`, `SPORTSCORE_HTTP_PORT`, `SPORTSCORE_HTTP_HOST`, `SPORTSCORE_NO_TELEMETRY` — the values above are empty placeholders; fill in real credentials before running (see the repository for what each one is for).

## Documentation

## What Backspace-me/sportscore-mcp MCP server does

Backspace-me/sportscore-mcp MCP server gives an AI assistant access to SportScore data for football, basketball, cricket, and tennis. It is suited to conversational queries about current games, competition rankings, player performance, and upcoming fixtures. The public API does not require an API key.

The server returns live and recent match information, including scores, status, kickoff time, and team logos. It can also retrieve details for an individual match, team schedules, standings, scoring or assisting leaders, player metadata and statistics, tournament knockout brackets, and live tracker information.

## How it works

Backspace-me/sportscore-mcp MCP server runs as an MCP process and communicates with a host over stdio by default. A client starts it with `npx -y sportscore-mcp`, after which the tools become available to the model. The server requests data from SportScore and presents the results through MCP tool responses.

Most lookups require a sport plus a slug. Match and team slugs can come from `get_matches` results or SportScore URLs, while competition and player examples include values such as `premier-league`, `barcelona`, and `lionel-messi`. The tracker uses a numeric match ID instead of a slug.

An optional HTTP mode is available by setting a port environment variable. The bind address can also be configured for that mode.

## Setup and configuration

For Claude Desktop, add a server entry that uses the `npx` command and the `-y sportscore-mcp` arguments, then restart the application. The same stdio invocation works with Cursor, Continue, Zed, and other MCP hosts that accept stdio commands; each host determines its own configuration file format.

The API base URL and User-Agent can be overridden with `SPORTSCORE_API_BASE` and `SPORTSCORE_UA`. Set `SPORTSCORE_HTTP_PORT` to run Streamable HTTP instead of stdio, and use `SPORTSCORE_HTTP_HOST` to choose the HTTP bind address. `SPORTSCORE_NO_TELEMETRY=1` disables the anonymous startup install ping.

## Tools and capabilities

Backspace-me/sportscore-mcp MCP server exposes these tools:

- `get_matches` lists live and recent matches for a sport, with an optional result limit.
- `get_match_detail` retrieves a match's score, status, timeline, and lineups by sport and slug.
- `get_team_schedule` returns past and upcoming fixtures for a team.
- `get_standings` retrieves a league or competition table.
- `get_top_scorers` returns leading scorers or assisters for a competition.
- `get_player` looks up player statistics and metadata.
- `get_bracket` returns the knockout structure for a tournament.
- `get_tracker` retrieves live tracker data, including positions and animation frames, by numeric match ID. This is generally most relevant to football.

## Limitations and notes

The free API tier allows approximately 1,000 requests per IP over 24 hours and uses 60-second edge caching. That is intended for normal interactive MCP sessions; higher-volume or production use requires contacting SportScore.

Tool results include a `Powered by SportScore` attribution. Commercial or white-label use that removes it requires separate contact with SportScore.

On startup, the server sends one fire-and-forget install ping unless telemetry is disabled. The documented payload contains the client name, version, transport, host platform, and Node version, and does not include a user ID, cookies, or fingerprint. SportScore's API terms and developer documentation govern API use.

Backspace-me/sportscore-mcp MCP server is MIT-licensed, but the API's rate limits, attribution requirement, caching behavior, and terms still apply to applications using it.
