## Documentation

## What AutomationNation data tools (via Apify) does

AutomationNation data tools (via Apify) MCP server provides structured access to a broad set of search and data extraction tasks. Its tools cover Google Search, Shopping, News, Images, Videos, Flights, Hotels, Jobs, Maps leads, Trends, advertiser ads, app reviews, YouTube transcripts, and AI-search visibility checks. Results are returned as compact JSON intended for direct use by an AI agent.

The server belongs in the Search & Data Extraction category. It is relevant for workflows that need current web or marketplace information, such as comparing travel options, finding businesses, monitoring search demand, reviewing competitor advertising, or checking whether a brand appears in AI-generated search answers.

## How it works

Each tool launches a corresponding AutomationNation Actor on the user's Apify account. Inputs use task-specific fields such as route and date, product query, location, keyword, app, or advertiser rather than exposing a generic scraper schema. Apify bills usage by Actor run or returned result according to the selected tool; a free Apify account includes monthly credit.

Long-running requests may return partial output with a run identifier instead of waiting until completion. The `get_run_results` tool can retrieve results from a run that was still in progress. Tool discovery is available before a token is configured, so MCP clients and registries can inspect the available interface first.

## Setup and configuration

AutomationNation data tools (via Apify) can be used remotely through the Apify MCP connector, or hosted endpoint, with an Apify token supplied during sign-in or in an authorization header. The hosted endpoint is:

For a local setup, install the server through `npx` using the GitHub repository and set `APIFY_TOKEN` in the MCP server environment. The README also documents an `AUTOMATIONNATION_TOOLS` value of `all`, and supports loading smaller hosted tool groups through a URL query parameter. Claude Desktop has a downloadable MCPB package, while Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, and Cline can use MCP configuration.

The published MCP Registry name is `io.github.retracn/automationnation-mcp`. The repository is licensed under MIT.

## Tools and capabilities

The available tools support these tasks:

- Search flights for one route and date, or find hotels by city, neighbourhood, or landmark.
- Search Google web, Shopping, News, Images, and video results.
- Retrieve YouTube captions with video metadata and optional timestamps.
- Search Google Jobs across 26 countries.
- Compare up to five keywords in Google Trends or retrieve current country-level trending searches.
- Find local businesses on Google Maps, including UK leads enriched with Companies House data and match confidence.
- Inspect an advertiser's Google Search, YouTube, Display, and Shopping ads.
- Retrieve App Store or Google Play reviews, then analyze reviews for bugs, feature requests, sentiment, competitors, ratings, and mentioned versions.
- Check Google AI Overview citations and ask AI assistants whether they mention or cite a brand.

## Limitations and notes

AutomationNation data tools (via Apify) depends on the availability and behavior of the underlying Google, YouTube, app-store, Companies House, and AI-search sources. Usage is charged to the configured Apify account, so workflows should account for per-tool Actor costs. Some operations can take long enough to return a run ID and require a later result lookup. The material documents an Apify token as the required credential for running the server; it does not describe additional authentication systems or data-retention guarantees.
