## Description
Australian company search by name, ABN, ACN, ABN status, state and postcode, with trading names.

## Tools
Capabilities this server exposes over MCP:

- **Australia_search_companies** — Search Australian companies. Filters are combined with AND logic. Include `q`, `entityType`, `status` or `state`; `postcode` needs `q` as well.
- **Australia_get_company** — One company by 11-digit ABN or 9-digit ACN, with or without spaces.

## What Australia Company Register does

The Australia Company Register MCP server exposes Australian Business Register company data through The Company Atlas. The dataset covers about 3.9 million private and public companies, including active and cancelled ABNs. Search results can include registered names, company type, ABN status, state or territory, postcode, trading names, business names, former names, and the date an ABN status last changed.

This fits the 🔎 Search & Data Extraction category. Reach for it when an assistant needs to find companies from a name or location, check whether an ABN is active, distinguish private from public companies, or retrieve a record using an ABN or ACN.

## How it works

The Australia Company Register MCP server is hosted by The Company Atlas rather than run as a separate process from this repository. Clients connect to `https://thecompanyatlas.com/mcp/australia` using the Streamable HTTP transport. Authentication uses Google OAuth, with sign-in prompted by the client or connector setup.

`Australia_search_companies` combines supplied filters with AND logic. It accepts a company-name query, either as a substring or prefix search, and can narrow results by entity type, ABN status, state or territory, and exact four-digit postcode. A postcode requires a `q` value. Results include data plus pagination fields such as total, page, and limit; the limit can be up to 50.

`Australia_get_company` retrieves one record from an 11-digit ABN or a 9-digit ACN. Numbers may include spaces. The response adds recorded trading, business, and former names, along with the ABN status-change date and last-update information.

## Setup and configuration

Add the MCP endpoint as a custom connector in an MCP-compatible client. In Claude, open the custom connector settings, create a connector, enter a name such as Australia Companies, and paste the The Company Atlas URL. Save the connector and complete Google sign-in when prompted. The repository does not document environment variables, local installation, or a self-hosted deployment.

## Tools and capabilities

The Australia Company Register MCP server provides:

- Name searches using `contains` or `startsWith` matching.
- Filtering for private or public companies.
- Filtering for active or cancelled ABNs.
- Filtering by Australian state, territory, and postcode.
- Direct lookup by ABN or ACN.
- Access to trading, business, and former names recorded against an ABN.
- Pagination for search results, with a default limit of 20 and a maximum of 50.

## Limitations and notes

The records do not include street addresses, incorporation dates, directors, or shareholders. Name queries must be between 3 and 200 characters when supplied. The search tool requires `q` when using a postcode, and filters are restrictive because they are combined with AND logic. The service uses hosted access through The Company Atlas, so this repository does not describe a local server or separate credentials.

The Australia Company Register MCP server is intended for company discovery and registration-data lookups, not for a complete corporate ownership or historical company profile.
