## Documentation

## What the AskYourStack MCP server does

AskYourStack MCP server gives an AI client access to server administration, website operations, content management, and SEO workflows. It can inspect Linux hosts, identify supported applications, read logs and files, report health conditions, manage background jobs, and run commands within the permissions of the connected agent.

Supported site discovery includes Magento 2, OpenMage, WordPress, WooCommerce, PrestaShop, Shopware 6, Drupal, Joomla, OpenCart, and Laravel. The service can also work with sites connected through WordPress REST API credentials or a WhizzyCommerce connector. Content tools cover reading posts, pages, media, categories, tags, and other content types, plus draft creation, editing, uploads, trashing, and undo operations where the account plan and site mode permit them.

SEO tools include keyword volume and ideas, live Google result checks, domain rankings, Bing site data, search performance, crawl information, keyword research, and backlinks. The available catalogue and plan-specific access determine which tools can be used.

## How the AskYourStack MCP server works

Install the supplied agent on a Linux server as the site-owning user or as root when whole-server access is needed. The agent connects outward to AskYourStack over HTTPS, so the service does not require an exposed inbound port or stored SSH credentials. User-level installation limits management to that user's sites and files.

Add the hosted MCP endpoint to an AI client. Clients with remote-MCP sign-in can use the main endpoint with OAuth; clients without sign-in can use a private address generated in the dashboard. The AI can first inspect the environment, explain a proposed plan, and request approval before destructive or otherwise risky actions. Multi-step risky work can be grouped into one approval through the planning tool.

## Setup and configuration

Create an AskYourStack account, register a server, and copy the one-line agent installation command from the dashboard. Then add either the OAuth endpoint or private MCP URL to the client. The README documents connections for Claude, Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, and ChatGPT, and says other clients can use the same approach if they support remote MCP over streamable HTTP.

Private addresses should be treated as credentials. If one is exposed, generate a replacement in the dashboard. The repository is documentation and listing material only; the hosted service is not built or run locally.

## Tools and capabilities

- Inspect server facts, sites, health, snapshots, jobs, and monitoring information.
- Read logs and files, run shell commands, and start or stop long-running jobs.
- Create snapshots, roll back saved data, write files, query databases, and use application command-line tools where enabled.
- Manage connected site content within the owner's read-only, draft, or publishing mode.
- Research keywords, rankings, search results, Bing performance, crawls, and backlinks.
- Save operational notes and work summaries for later conversations.

## Limitations and notes

Availability depends on the account plan. Several write, background-job, database, application-console, and SEO functions require Starter, Pro, Agency, or SEO plans. Free access includes read-only shell commands, while changes and other risky operations may require approval and a paid plan.

Database queries run with the site's own credentials in a read-only transaction. Passwords are not shown by site discovery, and notes reject passwords. Content changes retain what they replaced for 90 days. The security model, plan limits, and current tool catalogue should be checked in the hosted documentation because the repository excerpt does not define every service restriction.
