## Documentation

## What Arkansas Opinions MCP server does

The Arkansas Opinions MCP server exposes current Arkansas Supreme Court and Arkansas Court of Appeals materials through Model Context Protocol. Its source is the Arkansas Judiciary’s official opinions archive. The collected records include neutral citation, case name, decision date, docket, author, disposition, opinion type, county, term, participating judges, full text, and the opinion’s source URL.

The collection covers decisions dated from 2026-01-01 onward and is refreshed hourly. It is intended for developers building legal research or monitoring workflows in the ⚖️ Legal category. Older Arkansas case law is outside this collection’s stated scope and is left to the separate court-listener source.

## How it works

The server provides four primary tools:

- `ark_recent_opinions` lists the newest opinions for the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, or both. It can filter by date and optionally include syllabus documents.
- `ark_opinion` retrieves one opinion by neutral citation, such as `2026 Ark. 140` or `2026 Ark. App. 449`, or by archive item ID. It can return a selected earlier revision.
- `ark_search_opinions` searches case names, citations, and opinion text with SQLite FTS5 and Porter stemming. Results include a highlighted passage. Quoted phrases request exact matching; if no result contains every term, the search retries with any term and reports that mode.
- `ark_coverage` reports collection counts, date and citation ranges, revision counts, the last successful collection time, and backfill status. Use it before interpreting a missing result as evidence that no opinion exists.

Responses identify the source and the time of the last successful data collection. Opinion records include a link to the court’s own page for verification.

## Setup and configuration

For hosted access, configure an MCP client with the Pipeworx endpoint at `https://gateway.pipeworx.io/arkansas-opinions/mcp`. The README names Claude Desktop, Cursor, and Windsurf as example clients. The full Pipeworx endpoint is also available when direct access to the broader catalog is useful.

A local installation can run through npm with `npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-arkansas-opinions` and communicates over stdin and stdout. The standalone process exposes only this pack’s tools and does not provide the gateway’s shared meta-tools. No caller key or environment variable is required. A standalone install has no local opinion data; the hosted gateway is the data-backed runtime.

## Tools and capabilities

Each record carries a `citation_status` and explanatory note. The statuses distinguish assigned neutral citations, text marked as not designated for publication, uncited syllabi or notices, and listings whose text has not yet been read. Unpublished material is identified as citation-restricted, while not-yet-read listings should not be cited.

The collector preserves revisions when a previously retrieved opinion changes. `ark_opinion` can show version retrieval times, SHA-256 values, lengths, and reasons such as an initial fetch or source update. Unchanged rereads do not create another version.

## Limitations and notes

The integration is independent and unofficial. Archive access can encounter a bot check; a blocked collection run appears as `captcha_wall` in coverage data. Court-released syllabus documents and Court of Appeals no-opinion notices are stored, but recent-opinion results omit them unless requested.

The source states citation status from the court material and does not make an additional claim about precedential status for neutral-citation opinions. The Arkansas Opinions MCP server should therefore be paired with review of the linked official source when citation or revision details matter.
