## Documentation

## What Arkansas Code MCP server does

The Arkansas Code MCP server provides agent-accessible research tools for the Arkansas Code of 1987. It supports two main tasks: retrieving one statute by citation and finding statutes by topic or keyword. The service is keyless, so calls do not require signup, login, or an API credential.

Citation lookup accepts forms such as `5-10-101`, `4-70-101`, or `Ark. Code Ann. § 5-10-101`. Results include the section catchline, operative statutory text, the `History.` line, and other legislative notes when available. Case-law annotations are intentionally omitted, avoiding the very large annotation payloads that can accompany heavily litigated sections.

## How it works

The Arkansas Code MCP server uses a public GitHub Pages copy assembled from officially released Arkansas Code RTF volumes. The source is fetched when `ar_statute` runs rather than shipping a complete code copy in the repository. Topic search uses a baked index of official section catchlines spanning 28 titles and approximately 37,369 rows.

The statute response preserves the source text as a Release 78 snapshot dated 2020-11-06. A separate later-acts overlay checks the Arkansas General Assembly's Code Sections Amended index. It lists acts associated with the citation, including the act number, session, bill, PDF link, amendment flags, and source. The overlay is explicitly not merged into the returned statute text. It also reports the sessions checked and its own data date, helping callers distinguish an empty result from an unavailable index.

## Tools and capabilities

- `ar_statute(citation)` retrieves one Arkansas Code section with its catchline, text, history, notes, and later-acts metadata.
- `ar_search(query, limit?)` searches official catchlines across all 28 titles.
- Later-act entries can include Emergency Clause, Repealed, New Section, and Renumbered flags.
- A missing section in the snapshot may include `later_acts_if_created` when the legislative index shows later activity for that citation.
- Search is useful for topics such as capital murder or security deposits, provided the terms appear in a section catchline.

## Limitations and notes

The Arkansas Code MCP server does not perform full-text search. A concept discussed only inside statutory text may not appear in results if it is absent from the catchline. Searching across all title pages for each request is not supported by the implementation.

The underlying code text is frozen at Release 78, with `data_as_of` set to 2020-11-06. Amendments enacted after that date are not incorporated into the text. The later-acts overlay can identify subsequent legislative activity, but it does not reconcile or rewrite the snapshot. Its entries provide session and act information rather than an individual enactment date, so `date` may be null.

Use the tool for preliminary legal research and citation discovery, then verify current law against the official LexisNexis-hosted Arkansas Code or the Arkansas Code Revision Commission. The integration is independent and unofficial; it is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or published by the upstream provider.
