## What AppachiTech/suvadu does

AppachiTech/suvadu replaces the shell's usual history store with a local SQLite-backed database. Recorded commands include structured context such as exit status, duration, working directory, executor, and session. Commands entered inside Git repositories can also retain the branch they started on or switched to.

The MCP interface gives AI agents read access to this local record. It supports command search, exploration of recent failures, risk assessment, prompt-to-command tracing, agent-session discovery, and review of what an agent session changed in Git. Suvadu also includes a shared skills library and bookmarked command templates as part of its agent-facing context.

Agent capture varies by coding tool. Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, and Cursor receive full session capture, although Cursor does not include token usage. pi.dev contributes commands and prompts, Antigravity contributes commands, and Windsurf, Aider, Continue, and Copilot contribute command tags.

## How it works

Install the `suv` command, enable its shell hook, and verify the installation with `suv status`. Zsh and Bash hooks record commands as they run. Zsh can additionally use Suvadu for Up/Down recall, while the Bash hook provides Ctrl+R integration. The stored data remains on the local machine.

MCP exposes 22 read-only tools, eight resources, and six prompts. The read-only behavior is the default: two write tools remain disabled until their opt-in setting is enabled. Suvadu can trace a recorded command back to the prompt that caused it through Prompt Explorer, helping an agent connect terminal activity with an AI session.

Git branch capture reads repository files rather than running Git at the prompt. The branch is attached according to the command's context, including directory changes and branch-switching commands.

## Setup and configuration

Suvadu can be installed with Homebrew on macOS or Linux, with the project's installation script, or through Cargo. The Cargo installation requires Rust 1.95 or newer. After installation, add the appropriate shell hook:

```bash
eval "$(suv init zsh)"
eval "$(suv init bash)"
```

Place the matching line in `~/.zshrc` or `~/.bashrc`, then reload the shell and run `suv status`. The installer can also add the hook interactively, install into a user-selected directory, or avoid modifying shell startup files.

Use `suv settings` to configure shell behavior, Git branch capture, update checks, and MCP options. Equivalent configuration values include `[shell] capture_git_branch = false`, `[shell] enable_arrow_navigation = false`, and `[update] check = false` in `config.toml`. Set `SUVADU_NO_UPDATE_CHECK=1` to disable the daily release check through the environment.

## Tools and capabilities

- Search the complete local command history.
- Find recent command failures and examine risky commands.
- Discover AI coding-agent sessions and inspect their recorded activity.
- Review the Git changes associated with an agent session.
- Trace commands to the prompts that triggered them.
- Provide shared skills and bookmarked command templates to agents.
- Expose read-only MCP tools, resources, and prompts by default.
- Recall commands interactively from Zsh, with Ctrl+R support in Zsh and Bash.

## Limitations and notes

Suvadu is local-only for its history and agent data; it does not require an account, cloud service, or telemetry. It does make a once-daily request to check whether a newer release exists, unless that check is disabled. The check does not send history and does not run from shell hooks, scripts, pipes, or CI.

Up-arrow integration is currently provided for Zsh, not Bash. Zsh plugins that bind the arrow keys after Suvadu can override its navigation; placing the Suvadu hook after those plugins and reloading the shell restores the binding. Existing shells may also retain the old absolute path if the binary is moved, so reload the shell after changing installation locations.

MCP write operations are opt-in rather than enabled by default. Agent capture is also tiered: some supported agents provide complete sessions, while others provide only prompts, commands, or command tags.
