## What amazonads-mcp MCP server does

The amazonads-mcp MCP server gives an MCP-compatible assistant access to selected Amazon Advertising API operations. It can list advertising profiles, retrieve campaigns, inspect keywords and product ads, create campaigns, change keyword bids, and read campaign performance metrics.

Coverage is strongest for Sponsored Products, including campaigns, keywords, and product ads. Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display support is limited to campaign management. Reporting is available through a simplified performance-metrics operation rather than the complete asynchronous reporting workflow.

This server is suited to workflows where an assistant needs to review account structure, examine campaign results, or apply targeted changes such as updating a keyword bid. It requires an active Amazon Ads account and API access.

## How it works

The project is a TypeScript MCP server that uses an Amazon Ads API client. After it is built, the generated Node.js entry point communicates with an MCP client over standard input and output. Claude Desktop can launch it with a `node` command and the path to `build/index.js`.

Amazon Ads access uses OAuth credentials: a client ID, client secret, and refresh token. The server also uses a region setting for North America, Europe, or the Far East. API errors are passed back to the caller, so invalid credentials or an incorrect regional setting can prevent requests from succeeding.

## Setup and configuration

Install the project dependencies with `npm install`, then compile it with `npm run build`. The server can be started directly with `npm start`; development builds can be watched with `npm run watch`.

Set these environment variables before launching the server:

- `AMAZON_ADS_CLIENT_ID`
- `AMAZON_ADS_CLIENT_SECRET`
- `AMAZON_ADS_REFRESH_TOKEN`
- `AMAZON_ADS_REGION` (`NA`, `EU`, or `FE`)
- `AMAZON_ADS_SANDBOX` for sandbox testing

A helper command, `npm run get-token`, starts the OAuth flow after the client ID and client secret are supplied. The resulting refresh token should be added to the environment. For Claude Desktop, place the server command and environment values in its MCP server configuration, using an absolute path to the built JavaScript file.

## Tools and capabilities

The available tools are:

- `get_profiles`: list accessible Amazon Ads profiles or accounts.
- `get_campaigns`: retrieve campaigns, with optional state and type filters.
- `get_campaign_performance`: obtain campaign metrics such as impressions, clicks, cost, and sales.
- `get_keywords`: retrieve keywords associated with campaigns or ad groups.
- `update_keyword_bid`: change the bid for a specified keyword.
- `create_campaign`: create an advertising campaign.
- `get_product_ads`: retrieve product ads for campaigns or ad groups.

## Limitations and notes

The amazonads-mcp MCP server does not currently implement client-side rate-limit handling, so callers must account for Amazon Ads API limits. Its performance tool uses a simplified reporting implementation. Production reporting may require extending it with report creation, completion polling, download, and parsing.

Use the region that matches the Amazon Ads account: `NA` covers North America, `EU` covers Europe, and `FE` covers the Far East. Keep the `.env` file and OAuth credentials out of source control, and store refresh tokens securely. Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display support is partial, while Sponsored Products has the most complete coverage described by the project.
